Default A selection of disco 1980-82

My favorite disco time in a home-made selection:

1-CENTRAL LINE - Walking into sunshine
2-UNLIMITED TOUCH - Searching to find the one
3-EMPRESS - Dyin' to be dancin'
4-J.R. FUNK & THE LOVE MACHINE - Feel good party time
5-JIMMY ROSS - First true love affair
6-THE STRIKERS - Body music
7-LA FLAVOUR - Mandolay
8-RICK JAMES - Superfreak
9-THELMA HOUSTON - 96 tears
10-THELMA HOUSTON - If you feel it
11-PATTI AUSTIN - Do you love me?
12-PATRICE RUSHEN - Forget me nots
13-KAREN SILVER - Nobody else
14-RICHIE HAVENS - Going back to my roots

I guess Richie Havens is maybe too "soul-ish" for this collection but what the hell... it's a great track after all. And the one by Unlimited Touch got by now into my all-time disco faves. It's incredible how well it passes the test of time.

Nice selection Nano; may I add Esther Williams' 'Ill Be Your Pleasure' to that list as I just feel it would fit so well! Also, I listened to that Empress track the other day as I love that track & cannot believe that I've never noticed before that it uses the tune of the death march!! :o How that got by me I'll never know- I feel so foolish! :-?

Nano, I'm not sure how to describe the death march; it was generally played on an organ in old horror movies! :-? Can I just say that Karen Silver's 'Set Me Free' from '81 is one of my all-time favourite tracks produced by one of my favourite studio wizards, Mr.Soccio, but alas, I've never heard 'Nobody Else'. Is it in a similar style to 'Set Me Free'? I've heard other Karen Silver tracks that I'm not very fond of.

Problem is, I don't remember "Set me free"... Just let me tell you "Nobody else" is way ahead in terms of sound compared with her earlier version of "Hold on I'm comin'"... Sounds pretty similar to Gino in his "Closer" days and of course is produced by Mr. Soccio himself.
It's funny how with some artists it seems we know them for different songs depending on which country we're living... In Argentina "Nobody else" was Karen's biggest disco hit, even as this track was never released here. I have similar sensations with some other artists mentioned in the forum. Gusto varies in every place? Probably.

RU: I only know of one Empress album, the one that came out in Prelude, with a black woman in some silver dress and blue background. They were probably a (great) studio-only joint. Be sure to check the info section of this site, including a Bernie interview with Prelude's chairman.
