| Just received via the mail BB&Q Band's 12" vinyl of "Genie" and the Shep Pettibone remixes of "(I'm a) dreamer". Excellent stuff! Yesterday I went on a little shopping spree, and here's what else I'm listening to: Old school: The Rimshots - 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (blow your whistle). I bought this on sale and only because it was mentioned here so many times. It's a UK Castle Records compilation, and the music reminds me of People's Choice. The Brass Construction - The best of (movin' and changin'). Another sale item and it contains the 8:38 version of Movin' that at long last is going to replace my crackely 7". Evelyn Champagne King - "Love Come Down, the best of". I had this before but it mysteriously disappeared. Not really necessary as I have all her albums and a few CD re-issues but it bugged me... Breakwater - two CD re-issues: "Breakwater" and "Splashdown". I mostly bought this because Kae Williams later on went to sing, produce, write and play most instruments on the last BB&Q Band album "Genie". Breakwater sounds a bit like albums by bands like Chew or Pleasure. Compilation - Magnus Opus 2. A UK double CD, which I bought for the 8:34 version of Karen Young's "Hot shot" which believe it or not was not in my collection. It contains some real nice other long versions like David Joseph's "You can't hide (your love from me)" mixed by Larry Levan at 6:40; and Tata Vega's "Get it up for love" at 5:48. Twenty songs in total. New tracks: Modjo - Lady (hear me tonight). The base for this track is Chic's "Soup for one". Nice second 12" by Modjo. The album is forgettable (I listened to it). Jamiroquai - A funk odyssey. Jason Kaye c.s. is keeping the disco flame alive. Joi Cardwell - Joi Cardwell. Her first CD from 1997. The woman has a V O I C E!!!! GTS - Cover song album. My favorite Japanese DJ collective. The guys reworked classics like "Through the fire", "Never knew love like this before", "Baby come to me", "The greatest love of all" and others into thumping deep garage tracks. Excellent if you like it. Featured singer is Melodie Sexton. On previous albums, GTS enlisted the help of Loleatta Holloway and Norma Jean Wright and Luci Martin (The Chic singers). Michael Jackson - You rock my world. I almost hate to admit it, but I like it... The Ones - Flawless. A very danceable 12", which contains a reworked synth line from Gary's Gang "Keep on dancing". Satoshi Tomiie - On the wheels of steel. A mix album with excellent tracks in the soulful house/garage style. Includes Satoshi's own remake of MFSB's "K-Jee". _________________ "ON THE BEAT" [ This Message was edited by: maarten on 2001-10-19 21:37 ] [ This Message was edited by: maarten on 2001-10-19 22:06 ] |
