Default Funky Disco

Here's another home compilation, I called it "Funky Disco" and it's about the time when I started to go dancing... marvelous years. Of course I plan more selections like this one:

1-GAP BAND - Burn rubber on me
2-RICK JAMES - Give it to me baby
3-PEOPLE'S CHOICE - You ought to be dancin'
4-CAMEO - Shake your pants
5-DELEGATION - Heartache #9
6-FATBACK - Gotta get my hands on some (money)
7-FATBACK - Backstrockin'
8-LAKESIDE - Fantastic voyage
9-MYSTIC MERLIN - Hideaway (now, Soulseek is my God 8) )
10-RICK JAMES - Hard to get
11-DELEGATION - Put a little love on me
12-THE QUICK - Zulu
13 - BBQ BAND - On the beat (complete 6 minutes version, NOT the cheapo Rhino version)

I still play the instrumental out when I get a gig! It's funky!

I'm gonna have to pull this and play it. I know I always liked it, I just never considered it 'funky'.

Nano, I am also currently listening to Heartache #9.. some quick notes..:

Rick James - Hard To Get
I rated it #1 for a week at my club :D
BBQ Band - On The Beat
I agree with you all the way... nothing is better than the 12"
Fatback - Backstrokin'
wasn't that the funkiest song?

Thank you guys. I think what made me put "Zulu" here was the bass. What a fantastic bass track! Funky as hell, IMHO. I wonder who were that guy, or who produced this jam...

The Quick were a UK duo, Colin Campsie and George McFarlane. I don't think they made many records but 'Zulu' seemed to be a fluke - they had an awful follow-up called 'Rhythm Of The Jungle' which I can still see them performing on TV. That hair! Yuck! :D

Forrrce: I rather liked Rhythm Of The jungle and from memory it actually came out before Zulu originally.
I have another record of theirs from '79 Sharks Are Cool, Jets Are Hot which was something like a tamed down Go West (130/132 BPM) type of Blue eyed soul meets slick mildly techno kind of a track, obviously based around West Side Story. Good lyrics, strong melody and memorable hook. Wonder if I still have it out in the shed?

Funny you mention Go West, Quinny - I was actually thinking of making the comparison myself - along with Way Of The West. Remember them too?

Its strange that u make that comparison Quinny 'cos I'm sure I remember reading that one of Go West was in the Quick! I've gaot a teack by them also called 'Young Men Drive Fast'. I think The Quick were ahead of their time as alot of early to mid 80's UK pop had that funky/ electronic sound (think Fashion, Visage, Kajagoogoo, Curiosity Killed The Cat, etc.etc.). Ah, those were the days, before Oasis, Manic street Preachers & S Club 7. I didn't appreciate alot of that UK pop at the time, being more into such stuff as Change & Slave, but looking back alot of it was damn good music.

So you guys mean this was a white band? Oops! Surprise, surprise! :o
Probably their "uh-ah" wailing through the song led me to confusion. Certainly the rest sound a bit like the "new romantic" UK pop bands of the time. But that bass...
