In 1974 Roberta Kelly ("Zodiacs") was is the first Silver Convention's formation with Jackie Robinson, Betsy Allen and Lucy O'Neal. In 1974 Silver Convention was called Silver Bird Convention and their hit was just "Save Me". But in 1975 the Silver Bird Convention's producers - Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay - replaced all the ladies (and the name of the group) and we have the original Silver Convention with Ramona Wulf, Linda G. Thompson and Penny McLean. Then Silver Convention recorded the well-know "Save Me" (1975).

IMO up there with Patti Brooks in terms of being someone who never made even one half decent record. Also, the sort of act who fills up the disco bins in most second hand record shops.

A little confused since Marcio unintentionally took his post in two directions. Are you talking about Silver Convention or Roberta Kelly as not having a decent record?

I, for one, like Patti Brooks - "Girl, Don't Make Me Wait Too Long", "Love Shook", "After Dark" and "Got Tu Go Disco" are some of my favs - I wish that there was a compilation CD.

Woah After Dark is definetly a highlight of the TGIF soundtrack for me. I only know one other song by her (the one with the flamenco flavour) and it's *OK* but I thinkA fter Dark just shimmers.

As for Roberta Kelly... I dunno what happened. I have a huge biase towards Moroder productions and it seems liek they wanted her to be the next Donna Summer--her first two Casablanca albums, TroubleMaker and Zodiaks were similar in set up to the early concept albums of Donna Summer like Four Seasons of Love. But the magic is simply missing. I liek one or two songs ont hem and can put them on as backgroudn music but some of them are actually quite awful.

HOWEVER, I foudn two cd copies of the reissue of Gettin the Spirit, the 1977 Bob Esty/Moroder Gospel/Disco record. I'd LOVE to hear why they made this. But... It's actually a really really really good record (Bob said this record got his production work on Once Upon a Time and Last Dance and you can tell--similar style). AND her voice sounds MUCH better. Maybe she only shines when singing about religion?

Any other fans of this record?

I was reffering to Miss Kelly. I'm not a big fan of Silver Convention either, but I would concede they did what they did pretty well.

You guys probably know this already, but when Roberta Kelly's singing career didn't take off as planned, she became Donna Summer's secretary/assistant and have remained close friends.

Jussi: Never heard of this. Always thought "Trouble Maker" was her introduction

Bernie: Had no idea the woman became Donna's secretary. Assumed because her career didn't really kick she just dropped out.

She also did a lot of background vocals (including a cameo, alongside Patti Brooks, Donna etc on the Paul Jabara 80s great song This Girl's Back in Town) as well as having an 80s album I've never been able to find.

Kung Fu's Back in town was her first single but i'm not sure if I'd call it disco. I have a copy somewhere

Roberta Kelly also released a 1980 Album she recorded in Munich tittled "Roots can be anywhere" , my copy was released by Baby Records out of Italy, the best cut that received some Dance floor attention was "Kabaka Shaka", sort a disco /African theme beat. she also does her version of the old "Aie Mawana" here.
