I've only discovered this song recently and don't remember it from years ago.

Yes, it was a huge song in the clubs. At the time I was hanging out at Satch's, Cache and 78 Broadway. These Boston clubs would mix the break over and over to my delight.

I think it was a lot bigger in America than it was in the UK. The LP didn't even get released here, even though Nick Bailey and his crew were British. The US Prelude LP may have been a sort of comp., possibly.
Anyhow, I'd always understood '...Jazz' to have been quite an influential record 'Stateside.

I certainly played it a lot in dear old Winchester (almost as conservative a city as you could possibly find in the UK) and it used to go down well. I would not be surprised if this was against perceived wisdom. Used to love mixing that record.

I like everything that Nick Straker did, so i find it annoying that there is very little info on the band & their records are quite hard to come by in the UK; ironic when you consider Nick & co.are British!

Forrrce: Sorry, I've never heard the Komiko track. Apart from liking the track (ALBOJ) a great deal, it was nice and steady and therefore great to mix with. I quite liked Straight Ahead too, but 'Jazz' will always be the numero uno for me.

Actually I do remember reading in James Hamilton's column that "ALBOJ" was big in 2 places - New York and Winchester. Didn't Prelude licence it after FK heard the track when he lived in Hampshire and recomended they sign it?

Nick Straker's still active on the music scene in the UK. I saw him perform last year as part of Dennis Bovell's Dub Band at the Royal Festival Hall. He's collaborated with Dennis Bovell for many years.

The 12" has recently been rereleased/repressed if anyone on here is looking for it and dos not want to pay inflated prices. The sound is better on the repress than on the original.

I remember strutting to 'A Walk In The Park' whether or not that was disco, I'll leave that to you DJs to decide, but it did get the crowd on their feet back in 79.
Just dug out the '98.7 Kiss FM presents Shep Pettibone's Mastermixes' double album from '82 (UK Prelude/Epic EPC 22138) and gave ALBOJ a spin - still sounds great after 2 decades.
