Default Earth, Wind & Fire

Saw Earth, Wind & Fire in Concert at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct. Friday night :D

What can I say about the vibrance of their sound!?
Excellence does not even begin to describe the music they've given us over these past thirty years. And to see and hear it live :D :D

Verdine White's energy is still amazing, he was all over the stage and the floor dancing and playing bass. Even danced
on stage with women from the audience.

Philip Bailey's wife Crystal provided the female vocals for a really rockin' "Boogie Wonderland" which absolutely rocked the house down :D :D :D

A fabulous concert by possibly the greatest R&B group of all time!

I've been a fan for thirty years and I know why :D :D :D

Was it the original line-up? I heard there were different line-ups (all missing some people from the gold era) during the 80's and 90's.

Wonder if dedicated Thatcherite, Phil Collins sleeps well after dragging the Phoenix Horns through court on account of 'having overpayed' them half a million bucks nearly 20 years previously.

Didn't know anything about this. Was this because of the collaboration with Philip Bailey or something else?

NickNack,
Just looked for a piece to show you and found that Donald Myrick was shot dead at 53 by The LAPD in 1993, something I didn't know.
Anyway, here's a short on the Collins case, which was covered on the national news here. Collins' big 1981 LP was mentioned a lot in the features and I assumed the debt stemmed from that - though according to this short article, it was incurred by a more recent engagement.

TIGHTWAD PHIL SUES BAND

Rock legend Phil Collins is suing two of his former musicians for more than $1 million, saying he overpaid them.

But the surprise litigation has been frowned upon within the music industry and described as "unnecessary greed" as Collins is worth a staggering $215 million.

In a London High Court writ, Collins claims trumpet players Michael Davis and Louis Satterfield were paid on a "mistaken basis" from the star's 1990 world tour.

Collins said they were told they would each get 0.5 percent royalties on sales of a CD recording of the tour.

The CD contained 15 live recordings, but Collins claimed the two musicians played on only five.

His writ said "The two should have been paid five-fifteenths of a half a percent of the suggested retail price of the record."

"They were paid royalties...on the mistaken basis they had performed on 15 recordings instead of five. Mr Collins is seeking restitution of the money on the basis that it was paid through a mistake of fact."

As far as I know, Collins won the case. What an arsehole!

The original players still active are Verdine White, Phil Bailey and Ralph Johnson. Gary Myers and one or two other guys have been with the band 10 years or more. Maurice White stopped traveling with the band 9 or 10 years ago. He's about 61 - 62 years of age and has a chronic debillitating illness of some kind (I believe this helped influence his decision to quit the road). A truly remarkable talent :D

Forrrce, this confirms my long-held opinion of Phil Collins being a total shit. He's one of those people that one takes an instant dislike to to save time!

If he could just let go of his Mistress's thatch, he'd have deserted the UK as he pledged to do if Labour ever came to power.

I see Puff Daddy and a load of tuneless banshees recorded a Phil Collins tribute LP some time back. I don't get the fascination or adoration - what has Collins ever done for black music for its fans? Maybe he'd like to take us all to court - though I'd rather lead him to the gallows!
