| For those that follow Compilation history I just came across another double Studio 54 compilation album totally forgotten by me until today, it’s called Studio 54 Vol 2, Beats of the night”, apparently is an 1980 Italian production ‘Mixed by Tony Carrasco” , my copy still is sealed so I don’t know how good the mixing is (will check later) but it features some well known hits like “Mandoley” “Willie and the hand Jive” “Move on Up” “When you touch me” “Synergy” “I have a destiny” and others. Any one knows if this LP was popular in Europe? Or anywhere? |

| I'm not sure I understand the "then and now" part of the question. "Now" could be interpreted as meaning recently released compilations, right? Compilations that I bought years ago and liked I still like. I don't recall seeing any recently released disco compilations other than the dreaded K-tel types they hawk on PBS (the ones that use the exact same songs over and over). I also don't know if, by "compilation" the question refers to sampler-type compilations of songs by different artists or maybe hits collections by single artists. A very random list of my favorites would include "The Casablanca Records story", "Disco Connection 1976-1981", "The Salsoul Records Story", "The Disco Box", "54 Volume 2", and the Unidisc collections of Lime and Voyage's greatest hits. And greatest hits collections by pioneers like Donna Summer, Sylvester and others would seem to not even need to be mentioned.... |
