| Hi all, I was going through some old papers and stuff in my shed and I came across an old Australian Disco Top 25 which was compiled on the basis of DJ reaction charts dated October 1979! However one of the tracks that caught my eye was "Catch Me" by Pockets, so the memory bank kicked in and hey yeh I thought that wasn't a bad track so I raced inside to find it in my collection and to chuck it on the T.T. It brought back some great memories as to what I was doing and where I was when I was spinning it, as I have read in other forum topics about what memories are triggered by certain songs etc, however; I have not heard much about this group Pockets; could someone please provide any other additional information such as band members any other hits etc. BTW if anyone is interested I could post the chart so you all could see what was spinning Down Under in October 1979. No. 1 was Born to Be Alive! Cheers for now and - Get the funk outta my face. |

| The Pockets recorded 2 LP's prior to "So Delicious" (which included "Catch Me"). The 1977 debut "Come go with us" is widely regarded as their best and includes the classic semi title track "Come Go with Me" (and the equally good "Pasado" - also recorded by the Stairseps). The second LP "Take it on up" (1978) wasn't as well received, but it does contain some great soulful cuts like "Heaven only knows" and "Got to find a Way". The title track was on longer promo US 12" and was covered by Paulino Da Costa on his "Happy People" LP. (As a useless piece of trvia, I saw UK band Second Image live once and they performed a cover of an instrumental cut called " Sphinx" of this lp as their opening number!) Both these LP's were produced by EW&F's Verdine White for Kalimba productions. Not sure what happened to them after the third LP, maybe someone else here might know?

| Thanks Guys for the info on The Pockets. I followed the link on Gary Grainger and found that to be quite interesting. What was a surprise was the EWF connection. That could be another topic, what is Maurice and Verdine doing these days? I have an old 12 inch laser video disc of EWF in concert circ. 1981, just after Let's Groove was a hit. Verdine is just the best as to playing his bass and dancing around at the same time :o :D :D Anyway thank's again and all the best. |
