Default DJs: Did A pretty Face Influence Your Playlist?

All current and ex DJs will know exactly what I mean.

There you are playing the normal records when suddenly a really attractive woman (gay DJs paraphrase man from here on in) would come up to you with obvious intentions but ask for a really crap/old/out of style record. What did you do? Play the record, have a very good chance of some seriously good fun later that night, or stick to the tried and trusted and see if she was still interested enough to come back and flirt some more?

To paraphrase Xavier ' I was just a sucker for a pretty face' and would rather try and play the record if I could. I hated to disappoint people (bet you'd never guess that of me would ya?). There were some times when I hated myself for doing that, but hey, I'm only human with human needs and I was buggered if I'd let the waiters/barmen get off with 'em.

Luckily, some of my more regular girlfriends had good taste, so this never became a problem, but there were times when really attractive, flirty women would insist on dancing to the most hideous of records or more often, ones that were just plain boring and played out. Quite often, these same women would be the first ones onto the dance floor; the very same women that you'd look for in an audience to help get things moving. I particularly remember two sets of women in clubs 10 years apart. The first pair would always ask for 'Smarty Pants' by First Choice. A perfectly good record, but after 200 plays and 18 months on it was hard. The other pair were much more poppy in their likes and always, but always insisted on whichever record was my least favourite chart dance record at the time. Things like David Christie's 'Saddle Up' springs to mind.

As a footnote to this post. When I was DJing in Mallorca there was one Spanish guy who got terribly upset with me. He was in his middle thirties (a little old?), ugly as sin with a really badly potholed face, but he oozed sex and would always have an attractive Blonde on his arm. By his reckoning, as I was the only DJ in town, I should have had at least nine or ten different women every week. One every night and one every other day from the beach. I could never be that voracious, but I had me some fun and everybody danced.

From my observations, djs seem like a "chick magnet" as well as bartenders. He may not be Adonis gorgeous but women do flock around them. As far as him playing a pretty girl's corny/old song I don't know...he might if he thinks that he can get lucky at the end of the night. Personally, he won't get shit from me its just a song not $200.00  .

HustleBaby: You've almost made yourself sound like a 'lady of the night' with your last remark.
Put yourself in the DJ's booth. Don'tcha think guys would always be coming onto you? Women could be pretty predatory too ya know. I was just a poor, innocent guy. What could I do? 8)

Quinny

I used the money example because SOME men come on VERY strong as if they gave you money, gifts etc....A few years back, this guy bought me a ONE drink and wouldn't leave me the hell alone...he acted as if he was paying my rent or student loans   . So far I never got that behavior from a dj and if I was a dj ,men would come around me. A simple song request isn't a swap for sex but if I like him then whatever happens happens.......not in the same night I'm not aggresive or predatory (in that department) and I'm definetely no "lady of the night" :o  !
