Default Motown and another goody

Quiz 1: Name the two Motown groups that sang songs with the words "... The Lonely", in the title.

Quiz 2: In 1990 this group released a song with a title shared by both Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Pointer Sisters.

---- WHAT IS TITLE OF SONG?
---- WHAT IS NAME OF GROUP?
---- WHICH VERSION DID THEY COVER?

Hi Nicky,

All I can come up with..

"In My Lonely Room"-Martha and the Vandellas
"Ask the Lonely"-The Four Tops..

Drawing a complete blank on the second quiz..

Have a good day!
JJ

Very good. You're both on the money with the Four Tops but the other guesses are wrong. Here's a hint:

There's another commonality that this group shares with the Tops besides this song title. :D

I'm at a total loss..
The only other title I can come up with is an oscure track..
"One More Lonely Night"-Gladys Knight and the Pips..

I give up, Nicky!!

Double-D strikes again! :D "Just The Lonely" by the Fantastic Four still gives me chills. An album cut I never forget. Sure wish this group had more output.

Now, nobody for Ross and the P-Sisters?

  I just realized I made a boo-boo. It's not a Diana Ross song, it's a Diana Ross & THE SUPREMES song. Sorry for the confusion. I fixed my first post.

OK --- Here's a hint for Quiz 2:

When Frankie Knuckles did his remix on this "shared title, different lyrics" song in 1994, the original 8-beat intro was extended to nearly 2 minutes. :o

Right again, my man. I thought you UK chaps would have jumped all over this, seeing as the group, or at least this record, is "Made in England". I'll stop the pain:

Group is POWERBASS and the "Someday..." they covered is the Pointer Sisters.

Interesting note on the 12" jacket: It features a photo of a little girl, (toddler actually -- maybe 2 or 3 years old), dressed in what used to be known as a white communion dress, holding on to a white table or maybe a piano bench. The credits on the back say:
