hi DJ Jim:
I just tried GEMM and it's listed as Stop The War-Give Sheep A Chance by Raw Sex, Pure Energy and it's out of Germany.

There's also a version of it on the forthcoming Donna Summer/Trouble Funk "Together Forever" live DVD.

I think it is produced DJ Snell from Frankfurt. He is being bigged up as the next Boris Midney, but I can't see it myself. I prefer the the real thing - proper DC style Donna Summer with the Pump Blenders "Sunset People (do the whop baby this evening)"

This was on Steve Sukman's list at the 5am site.

I think I found this at some used store after I saw it listed on Steve's site.

Or is my mind playing tricks on me????

I"m thinking it had a picture sleeve with a sheep on it--I'll check tonight. What I recall is that it was sorta rockish and didn't make much of an impression...BUT I'll play it again.

I got to hear a single version! It's an electronic early 80's disco/funk type track thats mainly all instrumental. Not bad for a tripped out morning type tune musicaly, but very repettive and a little funny in a way with people making sheep noises and singing like a sheep at the very end saying "give us a chance"..very bizzare LOL..but I think i'll track down a 12" just to have it

DJ Jimmy,

I pulled the 12" last night...

It's very Tom Tom Club.

It actually starts with a cover of an old Edwin Starr song written by Norman Whitfield/Barrett Strong Called "Stop The War"--a followup to his hit "War".

So imagine Tom Tom Club doing a cover of "War"with a female vocal that I could swear is Nenah Cherry!!!!

That song goes into an original-- "Give Sheep A Chance" (all really one record). (Supposedly this is meant as a variation on "Give Peace A Chance" although it isn't John Lennon's song).

The b-side has the dub "Give Sheep a Chance" (Wooly Version).

The "Give Sheep A Chance" was written by N. CHERRY/ J. Blocker/G.Oban ; Produced by Blocker & Godwin Logie

1982/Island Records.

The main part of "Give Sheep A Chance" consists of a Tom Tom Club "Genius OF Love" type beat at around 109 bpm; the refrain "stop killing, stop shooting, stop burning, stop looting"...there's a female rap (Miss Cherry?); a sax solo, a coronet solo; and that "boink" sound that was used in Tantra's "Wishbone".

Add to that a sheep's "baaaaaa" that appears every so often.

I rather liked it. It would be trippy on drugs at 5:00am on a Sunday morning.

WOW, Nena Cherry linked to morning music..thats a trip in its own! The version I got hold of on an mp3 says 7 Inch version on it and theres only the part "stop lootin, stop shootin..." said once and the rest is all tripped out electronic disco/funk with the sheep noises LOL. Didnt get to hear the rap part. Sounds like a real rare one. Must get the 12" with the full suite and B side dub! I'll see what Gemm wants for it. Thanx for the info!

How bizarre! Two (disco 12") records with sheep in the title, the other being C'est Sheep by Adrian Munsey. This record was produced by the Mael Brothers was utter sheep's droppings from what I remember, but hey, maybe it's a rare, sought after, Mael Bros. completist's gem nowadays.
Obviously, the people what made 'Give Sheep A Chance' were either very astute (knowing there's virtually nothing but sheep on the Falklands Islands, apart from a few thousand humans), or had a wicked sense of humour.
