I know that at least one of the CD's is full of digitalized old 12" versions.

It is basically the original album, one demo track, and most of "The Dance Collection" compilation. Nice if you didn't already have both albums on CD, but probably not worth it otherwise. I'll pick it up anyway to see how the mastering is, and which version of "MacArthur Park Suite" they use.

I wasn't surprised at the contents of this deluxe CD. Then again, Casablanca wasn't intent on being club/DJ oriented with regards to its 12"s/records in the first place, although they tried that with the "Get Down and Boogie" EP in 1976.

Hi Graham: How many versions were there of "MacArthur Park Suite?" Is there a big difference in the versions? Thanks

There are two. The original was side 4 of "Live And More", and was released on CD on "The Dance Collection" compilation. The version I have of this has an annoying mastering flaw though. The second version, which has a slightly different mix of "Heaven Knows", appears on some of the 12" copies, and on "The Casablanca Story" box set. The difference is most noticeable during the transition from "Heaven Knows" to "MacArthur Park (reprise)". On the original, one flows seamlessly into the other. On the remix, the edit is very noticeable. BTW, both versions seem to have tape dropouts during the piano intro, so I guess that's a flaw on the master tape itself.

Okay, I listened to the 2 cd set last night. The sound quality sounded pretty good to me! I think the producers of the set did their best to give you your money's worth. Great packaging and liner notes. Can you imagine if plans actually went forward for Cher to sing Bad Girls instead of Donna??! :o I also feel the remastering of the twelve inch versions on Disc Two improved the sound quality, especially "Last Dance". Some of the cuts sound like they were just recorded yesterday and not 20 years ago!
