VIVIEN VEE is a little bit more than a one-

shot-diva:

Produced by Simonetti ("Easy Going"/"Goblin")

she has released 2 MustAlbums in 1979 on

BananaRecords...Hardisco with early HI-NRG-

Tunes...in the 80ies she was an italian

NRG-Star.

Sylvia also made "Automatic Lover" as her first, uptempo disco song. If anyone remember that song, holler back.

I've got the 12". I bought it hoping it would be a less-cheesy version of the flawed-but-brilliant Dee D. Jackson track. But it's infinitely worse. If you were to ask me what I thought was the worst disco track ever, this would get my vote!

The intro on Automatic Lover was mainly the purpose of buying that track. The song wasn't bad when it was released and I definitely wouldn't play it now unless someone requested that song for a custom made recording.

I'm sad to read the news about Tracey Weber, because "Sure shot" was my first choice as I was reading the first paragraph of Marky's proposal. She sure knew how to sing.

What about Mona Raye's "Do me"? Does she fit this category?

I also remember Teri De Sario... If not a true disco artist, she had a good album with a B&W cover of her face, and the title in green. Had two beautiful love songs, one of them called "I'm with you now".

About Amy Bolton, I remember a 12' with one long song on side A (think the name was "Do me a favor") and 3 short others on side B, the second was a fast & fun rocker called "3 Chi Chi". What happened to Amy Bolton? All music.com doesn't recognize her. Boodikka, illuminate us.

I remember this lady. "Feel Your Way Around" was the 12" (loved that title). You'll be glad to know Mark that Denis & Denise LePage were featured musicians on her album, LOVE DANCE. Luckily, Denise was not singing.

Anyone remember Gwen Owen's "I Don't Wanna Dance No More." Gwen was originally from the group HOT "Angel In Your Arms" fame.

Karen Siver had a hit with Nobody Else produced by Gino Soccio.

Geraldine Hunt didn't have another hit after "Can't Fake The Feeling". Honorable mention goes to Bernie for clearing up matters in the next post. Thanks

Ramona Brooks "I don't want you back" was my favorite song of all. I paid a lot of money to get that 12" from a record show.

Yeah, I realize Scherrie Payne was a latter-day Supreme and was also one of the replacement Supremes Miss Ross rounded-up for her ill-advised Return To Love Tour.

Some more names come to mind that had a BIG song and never did much thereafter:

BARBARA LAW - "Take All Of Me"

SUZI LANE - "Harmony/Ooh La La"

LORRAINE JOHNSON - "Feed The Flame/I'm Learning To Dance All Over Again"

ULLANDA McCULLOUGH - "Want Ads"

RUTH WATERS - "Never Gonna Be The Same"

NORMA JEAN (WRIGHT) - "High Society/Saturday"

PENNY McLEAN - "Lady Bump"

TAMIKO JONES - "Can't Live Without Your Love/Let It Flow"

ALMA FAYE - "It's Over Now"

CYNTHIA MANLEY - "Back In My Arms Again" /Boystown Gang: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough/Remember Me"

RORY BLOCK - "You're The One"

Also, since I'm not at home, I can't remember the titles of the Rozalin Woods & Ren Woods club hits. Anyone?

Two out of this set: Alma Faye had a hit with "Don't fall in love" on Casablanca.

It was on the other side of "It's over" on 12" and Lorraine Johnson went on the do background and lead vocals with Saturday Night Band on their second LP "Keep Those Lover's Dancing" on Prelude.

Not so. She later put out "Heart, Heart" on Prism which was a nice low tempo (110) track. Check it out since it's pretty good.

I liked "Can't Fake The Feeling" but what I didn't like was that when it went to #1 on the national disco charts Queen's crossover "Another One Bites the Dust" was #2. "Feeling" is a good record ,and was worthy of hitting #1,but I still would have like to have seen Queen get one week at the top

A similar situation occured on the RnB charts with Tom Browne's "Funking for Jamacia" ANOTHER GREAT record. It sort of got "punished" by NOT crossing over AT ALL

on the Hot 100 (not even the bubbling under surveys) Impossible now with RnB friendly Top 40 stations and the fact that RnB airplay is used on the Hot 100 as well.

About Marcia Hines.....

I bought a cd a little while back from a used CD store in Knoxville, TN of all places. It was an import of Marcia Hines doing Flashdance (What A Feeling). There were about 6 remixes on it, one of them doing dropping in "Got To Be Real" in the middle. It was interesting.....

before that, I'd never heard of her.

Sandy Mercer had a fabulous value 12" out in '79 where both a and b sides were excellent IMO: 'Work That Body' b/w 'Now That Youre In What You Gonna Do About It?' Never heard of Her since.

Another example is a lady called Candy Bowman who had a brilliant 12" out in '81 called 'I Wanna Feel Your Love' produced by Mtume & Lucas. Disappeared into the black hole...oh & another Mtume & Lucas-produced gem by Rena Scott ('Super Lover') in '79 too - whatever happened to her?
