Lime were a Canadian husband/wife team: Dennis & Denyse (no kidding!!!) LePage, who were HI-NRG darlings in the 1980's disco club scene.

Their productions were full of hooks and catchy choruses: "Your Love" ("your love, your love is never changing" ( followed by a screechy "your love is never-changing")) & "Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight" were the two biggest songs.

The problem was the vocals. He sang badly and SHE was unbearable; a woman who sang in a Tiny Tim falsetto (is that possible???) I've said it before and I'll say it again: she sounds like a yippy chihuaha doggie with a lit firecracker up her ass.

There were rumors that it was actually Dennis singing BOTH parts--but I guess it was just an Urban Disco Legend. I saw photos of the pair--I remember she was a skinny blonde in the Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) tradition and he was a Cerrone-ish Eurotrash disco lizard type. Hey that's the way I remember it!!!! :P

Now after I typed this, I went to allmusic .com to see if there was a photo. There was...BUT there was also this strange and unusual info:

"Lime was a Canadian disco/new wave combo that consisted of lead singers Chris Marsh and Joy Dorris, and production/songwriting team Denis and Denyse LePage."

WHAT???!!!!!!!

Ya mean, those weren't the vocals of Dennis/Denyse????!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marky,

This is interesting so I spun your topic off on its own so it wouldn't be missed.

I've never heard of those vocalists, but I guess anything is possible. On the other hand AllMusic calling them New Wave is a stretch so perhaps there might have been another Lime and hence the confusion? Anyone???

Joy Dorris sang live with Lime, but I don't think she ever recorded anything in the studio with them. She went on to become Joy Winter who recorded on Epic. She's married to John Luongo.

Now that does sound more reasonable and accounts for AllMusic's posting. Here's a photo that I have from a 12" single...

OK, so it really WAS Denis (sorry for adding that exta "n") and Denyse who were RESPONSIBLE fopr those vocals???

Speaking of John Luongo (one of my fave remixers)--what's he up to these days???? (I hate to admit it, but I sorta thought/hoped he was gay...don't ask me why...just his musical sensibility that made my feet wanna dance).

Come on, who in their right mind would want to claim those voices as their own? ("Love me baaaby, SCREEEEECH!") Then again, one of Paula Abdul's backing singers sued, claiming that it was her voice used on Paula's records, so I suppose anything is possible.

However, I would not be surprised if the couple in the picture were models and not Denis/Denyse. They look too young and perfect, given that I have seen Québécois pop singles from the early 70s with Denis' name on the credits (usually as arranger)... and who knows how old he was then. In a genre as image-oriented as this, there's got to be a good reason for them not to have their faces plastered on every album cover.

Those look like MODELS in that photo to me. NOT the way I remember the duo: a Cerronish dude and a skinny, blonde Dale Bozzio skank type. I saw their photos in Billboard and at Aloha Records.

When I bought that record back in the 1980s I also thought that the two on the cover must have been models. I'd be curious to see who they really are.

I like Luongo too Marky.
So are you saying John has a gay rhythm?
Any as Bernie said, some of straights know good music when we hear it. Having said that though, you may not feel that way about my taste since I liked "Your Love" and you just trashed Lime's vocal abilities :)

:o OK, I'm very confused. I remember "Lime" appearing on an early 80's telethon (not sure if it was the Labor Day Telethon). The female singer looked like the woman on Bernie's album cover. Her voice had a bit of that "Cry Of The Banshee" quality, but it wasn't as bad as the "singer" on the recordings: no dogs started barking and howling in other states at the sound of her voice.

Here's the rub: the guy doing the male vocals (who sounded a lot like Denis)looled like a cross between Paul Schaefer and a Muppet. I always assumed that this was the real LePage. They couldn't have hired him for his raw sex appeal.
