Discovery, Thanks for the track listing - I've been looking for it, ever since I heard about the release. By chance, do you have the track listing for the 2-disc release of "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer due the same day as "Diana"? It will feature a second disc of unreleased/rare tracks as well.

Discovery, Thanks for the info on the disk. Even a 'non-Diana' fan like me will probably pick it up. I've seen several Diana/Supremes CD's with additional tracks and extended mixes out there. There's one with a slightly longer version of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" where either Mary or Flo (can't remember) takes over at the end. That I have to get. I hope this new one has good liner notes. Maybe we can get the real deal behind the extended "Love Hangover". From the time signature, it looks like the bootleg copy which is an extension of the Disconet version. Hopefully they cleaned it up a bit. Always sounded harsh, over-eq'd on the high end , no where near enough bottom and not as clean as it should be. One more thing: They better have kept those repeated string rushes. Don't want Quinny to get bored :) .

| This is good news about 'Love Hangover' - I wonder who it's mixed by? I have the Disconet version which is only marginally better than the late '80s bootleg (which itself was appalling). I was told that Bobby Guttadaro's mix was mastered from a cassette tape, hence the very poor sound. The circumstances must have been pretty severe for a usually quality conscious Disconet to allow this. The mix was without doubt done form the multi-track - why no final reel master available (if this really is the case)???

I read the set will include a 28 page CD booklet wtih an essay by Brian Chin. Also, recollections by Nile Rodgers and Russ Terrana (who mixed the album that was eventually released in 1980 with Diana). I can't wait to hear the original Rodgers & Edwards mix of the album and all those rarities on Disc 2! Wow!! Release date is suppose to be July 29, 2003.

The track list for the Donna Summer "Bad Girls" deluxe 2-CD set is still unknown, but I'm looking forward to it as well.

I read in another chat room that the Donna Summer deluxe "Bad Girls" will be the "demo" version of the album, and the second disc will basically be the contents of "The Dance Collection" (the 12" mixes from the Casablanca days). If this is the case, I will be a little disappointed - I was looking for alternate versions and unreleased songs - not a 2nd disc with material that I already have on another CD). In contrast, this makes the "Diana" set completely astounding!

| Yikes!!! I have always been sooooooooooo curious to hear how the original Rodgers-Edwards mixes compared to the version Miss Ross deigned to release. Now, 20+ years later, we shall hear for ourselves. Was Miss Ross right or wrong????

Picked up the July, 2003, issue of Ice Magazine at Tower Records yesterday (so is Tower going bankrupt or what???). This issue has some more details about the upcoming "Diana - Deluxe Edition" and "Bad Girls - Deluxe Edition," both scheduled for release on July 29th (along with Marvin Gaye's "I Want You - Deluxe Edition" and Leon Ware's "Musical Massage")! Here are some excerpts from the article. First, about Diana - Deluxe Edition: The May 1980 album was supposed to be a sharp departure from classic Motown, as Ross had recorded it with Chic, the preeminent disco band featuring Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. "They did all these weird reggae tunes they could only get away with because Diana Ross was such a superstar," Weinger (Harry Weinger - Universal Music Enterprises VP of A&R) recounts. "Her vocals are more hard-edged and down in the mix - it's like she's attacking the songs. Motown heard that and said, 'That's not a Diana Ross record.' They did a pop version where there's more space for her vocals and the hooks are brought forward." Some copies of the sought-after Chic version haave circulated, but Disc One offers the mix commercially for the first time. The second CD, subtitled Diana: Dance, pieces together related club hits, mixes and some extra unreleased goodies. Highlights on the 13-track Disc Two include a 10-minute extended alternate version of "Love Hangover," which topped the pop, R&B and club charts in '76. "I'm real excited about this long version," says Weinger. "In the '70s, there was this promotional DJ pool service called Disconet. They did a great underground remix of the song, which we actually combined with the mixed CD release version." Twelve-inch versions of "Your Love Is So Good For Me," "What You Gave Me," "Diana Ross & The Supremes Medley of Hits," "No One Gets the Prize/ The Boss" and "I Ain't Been Licked" (unreleased) are featured, in addition to unissued songs "Fire Don't Burn," "You Build Me Up to Tear Me Down" and "Sweet Summertime Livin'." As for Bad Girls, the article continues, On the subject of 12-inches, Summer's Bad Girls- the 1979 double-album that produced the #1 hits "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" - has a second disc devoted entirely to them. Hits from immediately before and after the album are included, like the chart-topping "MacArthur Park" from '78 and the long version of "On the Radio," her Foxes soundtrack contribution that clinched the #5 spot in '80. The first CD features one extra track in its own right: the previously unreleased demo version of the title track. Remastered from the original tapes, Bad Girls is bulked up with complete lyrics, session credits, photos and an essay. Some discs to look forward to!

Hi Keefe! These sound better each time we get a little more info. Geez, I'm actually waiting for a Diana Ross release. Maybe hell really did freeze over. I really need to stop doggin' this woman. I may not be her biggest fan but I bet my collection of Ross/Supremes records rivals our Marky. Diana - The lady I love to hate. :D

Hi Nicky, The way the weather has been so hot all over the U.S. (97 hideous degrees in San Francisco yesterday, today's only slightly cooler), there's no way that Hell could have froze over! I can't wait for those two CDs! From the article, the "Marvin Gaye - I Want You: Deluxe Edition" and the Leon Ware "Musical Massage" also sound like must haves! Sorry I didn't give you that portion of the article but I got tired of typing. Happy Pride, Nicky! How are you guys celebrating?

Hey, Nicky! I can't believe I actually made it to the Parade nice and early yesterday. It turned out perfect. See my other post later today for details - some magical moments! I forgot to tell you, the Thom Bell produced Johnny Mathis album, "I'm Coming Home," (with "Life Is A Song Worth Singing") has it's CD release tomorrow, July 1st. July is starting out to be a great month for great music! :D
