Thriller came out before '84, but the album was at the top of the charts for months and months (it was, after all, the best-selling LP ever for years). CBS put out single after single from the LP, so just when you thought it was over with, another single would hit the radio and the momentum would continue. If I recall correctly, the title track was one of the last singles to be released from the album, along with the over-the-top theatrical video. It was everywhere. |

| "Everybody Dance Now" still stands as not only one of the biggest dance party anthems of 1991, but of the entire decade and of all-time (since the disco era, anyway!)... Notice that rap still played a pretty big part of my 1991 mix. Soon after, rap became known as Hip Hop, a slower BPM, sex & violence crazed gangster-led genre (about the time MC Hammer tried to "go gansta"). At that point, when rap was no longer "fun," it had no place in my mixes with the exception of a few Eurodance songs (with weak raps ala 2 Unlimited, Real McCoy or Captain Hollywood) or the rare return to classic rap roots (usually Will Smith). A side note: Metromix was a DJ mix subscription series, not to be confused with Metro (Mark Taylor/Brian Rawlings), the remarkable producers (i.e. Cher's "Believe")/remixers (i.e. Enrique Iglesias' "Hero") which will be seen in later editions... Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1991! 10. "How To Dance" (Metromix) - Bingoboys featuring Princessa 09. "Mamma Said Knock You Out" (Hot Mix) - L.L. Cool J 08. | Can't wait to do Part 2, which will include 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready For This/Twilight Zone," AB Logic "The Hitman" and much more. 1992 was a great year! Only drawback of this mix is that when I made this tape, Jason Nevins had not yet remixed "Jump Around." I've thought about re-mixing the entire set just to get this awesome remix in there, but decided I have too many other things to do. Oh yeah, I also just picked up "Rhythm Is A Dancer 2003." It is HOT! However, I still lean toward the "Purple Haze" remix because of it's sweet guitars which certainly must have influenced Culture Beat when they wrote "Mr Vain" a year later. Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1992! 10. "I Love Your Smile" (Hakeem's Mix) - Shanice 09. "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" (Hyperadio & Theo's Cheaptrick Mix) - En Vogue 08. "Jump Around" (Bloodstain Remix) - House of Pain 07. "Jump" (Supercat Mix) - Kriss Kross featuring Supercat 06. "Just Another Day" (Tommy Musto Club Mix) - Jon Secada 05. "Remember The Time" (E-Smoove Late Night Mix) - Michael Jackson 04. "Please Don't Go" (Sunshine Mix) - KWS 03. "I'm Too Sexy" (Extended Club Mix) - Right Said Fred 02. "Move This" (CJ Macintosh Club Mix) - Technotronic 01. "Rhythm Is A Dancer" (Purple Haze Mix) - Snap! |

| The remix of "Can't Help Falling In Love" features Elvis and is INCREDIBLE! Unfortunately will be very difficult to find due to "Future Mix" DJ volumes are probably long gone. I also love the creativity of the "Right Here/Human Nature" remix. The clip I used from the WPGC Remix of "Whoomp, There It Is" (which I used only to wrap up the Sub-urban mix) is very interesting b/c it incorporates clips from some "classic funk" and breakdance tunes. "More and More" had two completely different remixes labeled as "Underground Mix," one on the album "Love Is Not Sex" and another on the single. This is the album version (FAR better!). Anyway, the mix... Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1993! 10. "More and More" (Underground Mix) - Captain Hollywood Project 09. "Can't Help Falling In Love" (Future Mix) - UB40 featuring Elvis Presley 08. "Right Here/Human Nature" (Power House Remix) - SWV featuring Michael Jackson 07. "Informer" (Ben Liebrand Trance Mix) - Snow 06. "That's The Way Love Goes" (CJ FXTC Club Mix) - Janet Jackson 05. "Show Me Love" (Power Pop Radio Mix) - Robin S. 04. "Dreams" (R.E.M. State Remix) - Gabrielle 03. "Dreamlover" (Def Club Mix) - Mariah Carey 02. "Whoomp! There It Is" (Sub-Urban & WPGC Mixes) - Tag Team 01. "What Is Love?" (Unanswered Questions Remix) - Haddaway |

| Enigma wow'd me again in 1994, and I also loved Prince's (TAFKAP at the time) "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World." The jazzy "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)" was a unique ear-catcher. Not in the Top 10, but anyone remember Sagat's "Funk Dat?" Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1994! 10. "Return To Innocence" - Enigma 09. "The Sign" (Ultimix) - Ace of Base 08. "Here Comes The Hotsteppa/Heartbeat" (Heartical Mix) - Ini Kamozi featuring Taanya Gardener 07. "All I Wanna Do" (Power House Remix) - Sheryl Crow 06. | 1995 was the year that hillbilly music hit the dancefloor. It actually started in '92 with The Grid "Swamp Thing," but exploded with Rednex "Cotton Eye Joe." From there everything from "Pipe Dreams" to "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" received the dance treatment. Also in 1995, Italian star Corona covered an old song by Joy and Joyce (Baby Baby @ #9) and turned it from a pretty bad song into one of my favorites of the decade. Italian Dance music would turn the world upside down a year later... Must comment on #1, Mariah Carey's "Fantasy." I am certainly not a Mariah Carey fan, but this remix by David Morales with the Def Drums intro and down-bpm break featuring the Tom-Tom Club is undeniably a masterpiece. Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1995! 10. "Tell Me When" (Utah Saints Mix 1) - Human League 09. "Baby Baby" (Lee Marrow Radio Edit) - Corona 08. "Close To You" (Close To Trance Mix) - Fun Factory 07. "Beautiful Life" (Vission and Lorrimer Radio Edit) - Ace of Base 06. "Cotton Eye Joe" (Radio Version w/ Hit Mix Intro) - Rednex 05. "Run Away" (Club Attack Mix) - Real McCoy 04. "Runaway" (Junior's Factory Mix) - Janet Jackson 03. "You Are Not Alone" (Franctified Club Mix) - Michael Jackson 02. "Total Eclipse of The Heart" (Club Mix 7" Edit) - Nicki French 01. "Fantasy" (Def Club Mix) - Mariah Carey featuring The Tom-Tom Club |

| Wow...is that for real? Mariah Carey and the Tom Tom Club???? That seems unimaginable. I saw the reunited Tom Tom Club play in November of 2002 - they were really good! Everyone was dancing. I think they are on tour again right now...if they come to your town you should check them out. I like some of the new songs on the CD, but it was really cool seeing them play "Genius of Love". Tina is a mean bassist! Too bad they wouldn't play "Wordy Rappinghood" even though I kept shouting it out. Later, after the show, they came to a local bar and hung out with the audience. They were very friendly and ready to have a good time. Don't be ashamed of liking Milli Vanilli - I do too! The NY Subway remix of "Girl you know it's true" and "All or nothing" are my favorite tracks. It's weird that everyone was so pissed off that they didn't write or sing the music, when nowadays it's common knowledge that pop acts usually aren't really singing. |

| Miss Carey's "Fantasy" was sung over the "Genius Of Love" sample. If you heard "Fantasy" on the radio...you heard Genius Of Love" too. This wasn't just for a special remix version.

| Ohhh...cool factoid. I thought you meant she sang with them playing as her backing band...that was just a hard collaboration for me to picture. Not surprising that she would sample "Genius of Love". Didn't she also cover the InDeep song "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life"? |

| 1996 was a HUGE year for Dance music! It was the year that WKTU returned to New York as the #1 station in the ADI, resulting in dozens of stations around the country attempting to replicate the format. It was a brief time of Dance bliss before the Hip Hop onslaught. It was also important because a whole new genre of music was "born" when Robert Miles released "Children." At the time, many called it Dream House, Dream Dance or Dream Trance. Although Trance existed prior to '96, it was with "Children" that the genre exploded and resulted in Trance's dominance of Europe for several years. Another big song that year was Todd Terry's remix of "Missing" by Everything But The Girl. The remix MADE Todd Terry, and the beat was used and re-used, most famously in No Mercy's #1 smash "Where Do You Go." The Ocean Drive remix which I used here is among my favorite songs of the decade. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Check out the list for '96! Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1996! 10. "Children" (Full Length) - Robert Miles 09. "Sweet Dreams" (Stylin' Free Mix) - LaBouche 08. "Feels So Good" (Power Workout) - DJ Juanito presents Lina Santiago 07. "C'Mon N' Ride It (The Train)" (Club Remix Edit) - Quad City DJ's 06. "It's All Coming Back To Me" (Classic Paradise Mix) - Celine Dion 05. "This Is Your Night" (DJ Enrie Radio Mix) - Amber 04. "Where Do You Go" (Ocean Drive Mix) - No Mercy 03. "Missing" (Todd Terry Club Mix) - Everything But The Girl 02. "Unbreak My Heart" (Soul-Hex Anthem & Classic Radio) - Toni Braxton 01. "Macarena" (DJ Dero Latin Piano Remix & Bass Bumpers Euro Mix) - Los Del Rio |

| Thanks to those who gave positive responses re: Milli Vanilli! My favorite was the Super Club Mix of "Blame It On The Rain," which included samples of several "rainy day" songs including BJ Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head." It was similar to the NY Subway Remix of "Girl, You Know..." which I agree was fantastic! Also the Extended Super Club (Video) Remix of GYKIT was wonderful! Now on to 1997... You don't know how much it bothers me that I couldn't fit a few more songs on here, especially the Cibola Club Mix of OMC's "How Bizarre." I also wish that I would have used the remix of Crystal Water's song that includes EW&F's "September." If I ever do a "part 2" I'll have to include "Jellyhead" (Motiv8 Remix) by Crush and "Don't Speak" by Clueless. As for the tracks included, my favorite would have to be the remix of Mark Morrison's "Return Of The Mack." Obviously, 1997 was another very good year for dance music... Club Countdown's Top 12 of 1997! 12. "Say... If You Feel Alright" (X-Mix Radio Edit) - Crystal Waters 11. "I Like It Like That" - Blackout Allstars 10. "I Want You" (Hot Radio Mix) - Savage Garden 09. "Lovefool" (Tee's Club Radio) - The Cardigans 08. "Call Me" (Junior's Main Mix & Euro Radio Mix) - Le Click 07. "Fly" (ReMix DJ Mobile Series) - Sugar Ray feat Supercat 06. "Tubthumping" (Album Version & Ism Remix) - Chumbawamba 05. "Return Of The Mack" (Incredible B-Boy Orchestra Mix) - Mark Morrison 04. "Walking On The Sun" (Love Attack Dance Mix) - Smash Mouth 03. "As Long As You Love Me" (Soul Solution Club Mix) - Backstreet Boys 02. "Barbie Girl" (Extended Version) - Aqua 01. "Together Again" (Radio Edit) - Janet |

| I did something very unusual in this mix: I used a cover version of a current hit. "Truly Madly Deeply" was a huge hit for Savage Garden, but they didn't really have a dance/club version (that I was aware of), and a group called Vicious Flowerz had done such an excellent dance cover of it, I decided to use it. To this day I've never had anyone ask me if it was a cover, as it sounds so true to the original but puts a fine club beat to it. 1998 was a big year for cover tunes: in fact, originally this mix included Deja Vu's cover of "My Heart Will Go On" (the cover was a hit in it's own right), but when I picked up the Tony Moran Mix, of course I had to replace it (fantastic remix of an extremely worn song). I really loved several of the songs on this mix, but two of the songs, "Sunchyme" (Original Mix) by Dario G and "Believe" (Xenomania Mad Tim and The Mekon Club Mix) are among my favorites of the decade and of all-time! Also of note: It was a big year for country crossovers! Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1998! 10. "If You Could Read My Mind" (Original Edit) 09. "(Can You) Feel It (Drop A House)" (Single Mix & Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Voyeurism Mix) - The Tamperer featuring Mya and The Jacksons 08. "How Do I Live" (Mr Mig Dance Radio & Mr Mig Club Mix) - LeAnn Rimes 07. "You're Still The One" (Soul Solution Percapella & Extended Club Mixes) - Shania Twain 06. "Truly, Madly Deeply" - (performed by Vicious Flowerz) 05. "Sunchyme (Life In A Northern Town)" (Original Mix) - Dario G featuring The Dream Academy 04. "One More Night" (Hani Remix) - Amber 03. "Music Sounds Better With You" (12" Club & Bob Sinclair Mixes) - Stardust 02. "Believe" (Almighty Definitive & Xenomania Mad Tim and The Mekon Club Mixes) - Cher 01. "My Heart Will Go On" (Tony Moran Mix) - Celine Dion |

| The year of the Latin Explosion... in a BIG way. Jennifer Lopez & Ricky Martin "newcomers" to the English speaking musical world. Hex Hector & Pablo Flores are dominant remixers. My picks from this lot: "We Like To Party" and Donna Summers' "I Will Go With You," which I would place among her BEST OF ALL TIME in a heartbeat. Brilliant work! Overall, however, 1999 was a disappointing year for Dance/good time party music IMO. The unquestionable #1 by Ricky Martin is considered by many to be the song of the decade, with Mambo #5 also high on many lists, but neither would likely even crack my top 500 of the 90's. Sorry Ricky fans... Oh yeah, and Hex Hector made his career when Jennifer Lopez decided to make a video remix with his work on "Waiting For Tonight." Biggest dissapointment: "Sun Is Shining" (Funkstar Deluxe Remix) by Bob Marley never really caught on. Club Countdown's Top 10 of 1999 10. "We Like To Party" (More Airplay & BCM Mixes) - Vengaboys 09. "Strong Enough" (Marc Andrews Remix Edit) - Cher 08. "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" (Hex Hector/Mac Quayle Dance Remix) - Deborah Cox 07. "My Love Is Your Love" (Jonathan Peters Vocal Club Mix) - Whitney Houston 06. "Music Of My Heart" (Hex Hector 7") - NSync & Gloria Estefan 05. "I Will Go With You" (Hex Hector Extended Vocal Mix) - Donna Summer 04. "Mambo #5" (Extended Mix) - Lou Bega 03. "If You Had My Love" (Pablo Flores Remix) - Jennifer Lopez 02. "Waiting For Tonight" (Hex Hector Remix) - Jennifer Lopez 01. "Livin' LaVida Loca" (Pablo Flores Spanish Dubapella & English Radio Edit Mixes) - Ricky Martin |

| This is a two part mix. Part 1 is #'s 1-15, part 2 is #16-26. 2000 was an INCREDIBLE year for dance music, not only for the dance/club hits, but for the mainstream hits that had substantial remixes for the dance floor. Admittedly, some included here ("Bye Bye Bye") are not my mixes of choice, but rather what I had available to me. On the flip side, there are some listed here that are beyond words... the Skribble & Anthony Acid Mix of "Most Girls" and #17 & 15 remixed by Maurice Joshua (remixer of the year), Victor Calderone's career-making remix of Sting's "Desert Rose," and the Hex Hector remix of "Breathe" are all majestic. What a great list here!!! But the cream of the crop are the very rare Metro Club Mix of Leanne Womack's "I Hope You Dance" and Quincey & Sonance Remix of U2's "Beautiful Day" which are songs for the ages! Club Countdown's Top 26 of 2000! 26. "Bye Bye Bye" (Teddy Riley Remix) - NSync 25. "I Think I'm In Love With You" (Radio Version & Lenny B's Club Mix) - Jessica Simpson 24. | Another two part mix: Part 1 (#'s 1-10), Part 2 (#'s11-22). 2001 was a big year for disco across the globe! "One More Time" by Daft Punk was huge, and several songs like Lopez' "Love Don't Cost..." and Gloria Estefan's "Out Of Nowhere" (Metro Mix, not included in the Top 22) had fantastic disco remixes. African Americans at long last returned to their dance roots as R&B finally had a bit of a revival, with Mary J Blige's "Family Affair" leading the way. Most underrated: "Angel" by Lionel Ritchie should have been a Billboard #1. The remixers du jour were Metro, Thunderpuss and Dataluxe. The biggest sound of the year was Vocal Trance. All in all, if you were willing to dig deep, 2001 was a pretty good year! Club Countdown's Top 22 of 2001! 22. "All Around The World (La La La)" - ATC 21. "I Turn To You" - Melanie C. 20. "Turn Off The Light" (Dataluxe Mix) - Nellie Furtado 19. "Cha Cha Slide" (Club Mix) - Mr C. 18. "Who Am I?" - Massive 17. "Pop" - NSync 16. "Angel" (Extended Remix) - Lionel Ritchie 15. "Family Affair" (Spanish Fly Remix) - Mary J Blige 14. "I'll Fly With You" (Bla Bla Mix) - GiGi D'Agostino 13. "One More Time" - Daft Punk 12. "You Rock My World" - Michael Jackson 11.
