Default Chic's lyrics: "A Warm Summer Night"

Papi
Could you love me tonight
On a Warm Summer Night
It would be so nice tonight
Te quiero papi
Could you love me tonight
On a warm summer night
It would be no nice tonight

Te quiero papi means, at face value, I want you daddy :D .

That is absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew those Chic guys were perves! Especially the one with the big glasses! He was so obviously up to something, u could just tell from looking at him. Disgusting!

I prefer Gino Soccio. At least he would never involve children in his sworded seedy double life,

"Te quiero Papi" translates as 'I love you Papi' where Papi could be daddy, but could also be a name.
Now, it's not unusual for black guys to be called 'daddy' or 'big daddy', so maybe it's more harmless than you think.
A daughter's love for her old man or even a wowan's love for her 'daddy' i.e. her man.

I sincerely hope you're right Quinny.
Otherwise this could prevent me from putting another chic song on the turntable for a very long time!!

I've just beeen listening to "My Forbidden Lover" and I'm not 100% sure of the lyric but it sounds like "Don't tell Mummy about the sausage game we play, I know you like it when I wear the snorkal".

This is definately the work of the one with the glasses. It's written all over his face (and probably his chest too).

Let's not jump to unfounded conclusions! "Papi" is a very popular term used by Hispanics to denote a suave or handsome guy. Pretty much along the lines of what Quinny said.

This reminds me about the accusations and crazy rumors regarding Machine's "There For the Grace of God" as being anti-black... despite the fact that it was written by August Darnell-a Hatian.

I agree with Bernie. I know many Hispanics and have heard them use the word "Papi" in everyday conversation. Used in this way, it comes across as a form of endearment between friends, like, "Hey, Papi, what's happenin'?" Nothing sinisiter. When used in private in intimate conversations then it can express love or lust, depending who your with.

A woman (or man) saying, "Te quiero, papi" is about as harmful in English as "Give it to me, momma" or "Yeah, baby, do it to me". Take these two phrases literally and I think 99% of us would be either on Freud's couch or behind bars. :)

Marcio & Leatherman: I think you're looking for or seeing something that's not there. I used to play "Warm Summer Night" as a slow down or warm up piece. It's a beautiful arrangement. Never had anyone come up to me and scream about perversion. I actually bought the CD cause my vinyl was shit and you can't have 'snap, crackle, pop' over that soft ending. :D

Leatherman --- you either have very bad hearing or some issues to deal with.

Uh, oh --- So you think Leatherman is pulling a fast one and I fell in ass first? Good one. If true, I deserve to be bitch-slapped for being so gullible. The joke, and the beer, is on me.

I'm with Quinny!!!! I'm laughing my ass off at the Leatherman post!!!! Despite the fact that there were no smilies, I took it for a joke....

Especially liked the parts about knowing the guy with the big glasses had to be a perve!!!! :P

BTW, I hear the term "Papi" used all over LA--by women to their boyfriends.

Sorta like the reverse of "Who's you Daddy?" I guess.

Ok, I don't know Spanish slang and if papi means boyfriend or lover I just fobbed me off with the word :D . Maybe Nano knows something else. In my opinion, Chic's A Warm Summer Night is one of the best B-Side of all times. I'm not criticizing it .

Well yes, as a true "Hispanic" I can say "papi" is used (not so like in the seventies) for girlfriends with their boyfriends; in return, the guys call them "mami" o "mamita". Of course, all children refer to their parents in the same terms. :-?

Leatherman: you cracked me up, man. A SNORKEL???!!! What the hell...???? :D :D :D I was laughing right with Quinny & Marky...

BTW, "A warm summer night" was a great slow jam. It was the only song I missed when I got the "Dance, dance, dance" Chic compilation.
