THIS POSTED IN ERROR. I THOUGHT I WAS READING MOST UNDERRATED RECORDS....please read with this in mind.

I could never, ever like 'Cocomotion', so your efforts would be in vain.
I've been considering this topic and although there are loads of tracks that might qualify, I thought of two in particular that are worth a mention.
War - Galaxy - This was a real anthem for me, but doesn't ever show up on any 'best of Disco' type compilations.
Gene Chandler - Get Down - same goes for this.

These two records epitomise what UK club records were all about, even during the 'Disco' years. I get the impression they were a solely black disco phenomenom in the U.S.?

Like Marky, I get a bit naffed off with these 'worst disco records' type threads but as I'm in a bitchy mood (unusual I know ) can I just state my dislike for Labelle's 'Lady Marmalade' (or anyone else's version 4 that matter!) & Foxy's 'Get Off'. I think its just that I'm sick of hearing these tracks on many compilations or radio shows over the years. A track I used to like but find I'm sick of nowadays also is Tom Browne's 'Funkin for Jamaica', again due to extereme over-exposure.(just love 'Thighs High' though!)
Can I just add that I agree with Graham's comment about Bobby O/ Divine's stuff being totally cool.

Default You have excellent distaste, Steely!

Nice adds, Steely Dan! I also remembered that "Oh What A Night" by The Four Seasons certainly belongs on a most overrated list!

Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven when you seque from the full album version of Cocomotion into Get On The Funk Train and let it ride! But isn't it really pointless to argue about matters of taste? To each his own and as the French say, everyone has his own hell. When it's my time to be condemned for all eternity I shall no doubt be treated to "Angie" by The Rolling Stones, that Christmas song by John & Yoko, "Hands Across America" and "Final Countdown" by Europe. And when I feel like dancing, all they have is country music or Foxy's "Get Off".

I haven't experienced great days of disco but this my list of today's disco most overrated songs :

1 - I want you back
2 - That's the Way I like it
3 - You're the first, the last, my everything
4 - Dancing Queen
5 - Best of my love.

I don't manage to dance on thoso ones.

I don't remember who quoted Romeo & Juliet as an overrated song, but even if I absolutely have no idea of what it can sound like on a dancefloor ( maybe it's not as overrated as it should be ), when I listen to me at home, It's just paradise, and for me it's a masterpiece.

Sorry I'm just a french guy trying to speak english, and i think my last phrase is the longest I have ever wrote. I hope it's clear for everyone. :)

Com king don't worry, your English is better than alot of English people I've met!!
And your total adoration of Romeo & Juliet is completely understandable as the production values on this record are quite amazing IMO. The sound created by Alec C.is astonishing & I wish today's records had a fraction of R & C's class & beauty.

I know all you guys LOVE THAT COSTANDINOS!!!!

That's why I get the urge to fuck wit'cha every so often. :P

It's not the worst stuff I've ever heard...BUT I don't think I'm ever gonna feel as "passionate" about it as a lot of you do. And, few of you, have ever embraced Eddie Holman's fab "This Will Be A Night To Remember" like I have!!!

"Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks!!!"

As someone who was slightly too young to go clubbing in the real disco era (I was 13 in 1979), but was well aware of and into the "disco" music in the charts at that time, I totally missed out on Costandinos, Midney, and Rinder & Lewis. It was only relatively recently (2 or 3 years ago) when reading Jussi's book that I came across them, as the book gave them extensive writeups. So I obtained some of their songs, and I was totally blown away. Since that time I have collected just about everything they have done, and I haven't changed my mind at all. Maybe I don't have the credentials that a lot of people here have, not having been old enough to "live" through the era, but to me they epitomise exactly what disco is: lush production, rich strings, cooing female vocals. If someone asked me what I thought was the perfect disco song I'd point them towards "Cocomotion", "Love Is The Ultimate/Touch Me Baby" or "From East To West". I have a large enough disco collection (several thousand songs) to know what other disco styles there were, but give me "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" over the extended version of "Love To Love You Baby" any day.

A lot of the songs that made the lists (e.g. "Celebration", "I Will Survive") are definitely overplayed, but I can't say that I dislike them.

However.....

"Hills of Katmandu" Tantra ---long and boring

"Lay All Your Love On Me"/"The Visitors" Abba--I don't dislike these songs, but feel they are overrated and not my favorite Abba tunes.

"If My Friends Could See Me Now" Linda Clifford---too long and repetitive.

"Le Spank" Le Pamplemousse--Not my bowl of grapefruit.

and a house tune

"I'll Be Your Friend" by Robert Owens--Sucks!!!!

"3 - You're the first, the last, my everything" Got to disagree
with you on this one. It's a beauty!

"4 - Dancing Queen" While this song may be overPLAYED in some circles, it is DEFINITELY not overRATED! Think about this song if it were not a hit... it is still pure disco heaven! The rolling piano & orchestration are perfection. And Picasso couldn't have painted a more vivid picture! This is classic disco.

Just my thoughts...

I'll Tell You. If the sound system was good and LOUD it was like being attached to one of those backback rocket belts seen in 007/Thunderball. Liftoff with serious g-force into disco universe. Bounce and slide around, dramatic stop-and-go moments, spinning and gliding, and what was so good about it was that the whole shebang was so long and did not fade away after some 7 minutes like so many lesser tracks. If the sound system was just adequate it was a pleasurable listening experience.

So Jussi,

the only thing I can do is just hope that I will hear this song one day on a dancefloor.

We poor young kids .... :)

This is all about taste here. Some of us will find underrated some songs other consider overrated.

Personnally I don't dislike Barry White's song, but it's just OVER and OVERplayed, here in France.

Another songs that I find quite overrated are :

The Grease medley
The Weather Girls - It's rainy men
Andy Gibb - Shadow dancing
