Default Prince and Jacko with James Brown: myth or truth?

Around the time of the "Purple Rain" album many rock magazines went with long articles on Prince, who they had just discovered (shame on them! :o ) Anyway, I remember reading in one of those articles that Prince and Michael Jackson had met together in a James Brown concert. The Godfather had invited both of them onstage, where they accompanied him on one of his funky numbers (I like to think it was "Sex Machine", but I don't really remember). Jacko did his bit of singing and dancing, then Prince did some too. Legend has that when Mr. Nelson ended his part, Mr. Brown looked to the crowd and screamed knowingly: "Watch out, Michael!"
Now, I don't have that magazine with me and since then I read two biographies of Prince, but I can't find this anecdote anywhere. I'm starting to think it all happened in the writer's imagination. This should have been around 1983-84, when Prince started to explode in the rock world.
Do you remember this incident? Have other details? Is this on tape somewhere? Or I'm just nuts?

I have been keeping a watchful eye for proof if this myself. I 'know' no more than you, other than that the performance was supposedly in Italy. There is alleged video footage of this but with 3 giants like that, someone somewhere would have made money out of it by now! I think it's just one of those urban rumours that has simply passed into legend (like so many) but it would be nice to be proved wrong.
