I gotta save half of this blunt to cut in the booth while my head is locked in gear to this!

Y&P is almost finished, and I just set up my next cut, here it comes, mixing it in, here comes that beat....

DUMP, DUMP, DUMP, DUMP, DUMP, DA DUMP, DA DUMP, DA DA DUM DUM DUMP, DUMP, DUMP....OOOOOOOOWEEEEEOOOOOOWAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

It's 'Baby Doll' by the UK band Girls Can't Help It! I LOVE that jam!

Gonna finish the rest of this blunt now.

I think Heartbeat was left on the turntable while everyone else is smoking. I will insure the part where you hear just the heartbeat noise and drop from the beginning of Don't stop the music by Yarbrough & People (Doop doop de beeeeow). This song has always been a challenge to mix out. Good luck...I'm excited to see were you guys take it......
DJRAZ you make a good statement on making up a few rules indeed, but we should sometimes agree to disagree. For example, as far as hip hop goes, up to 1984 there were really groovy tracks from artists like Kurtis Blow, Ronnie Gee, Funky 4 + 1, that sorta thing, which were not only danceable but had no vulgarity whatsoever, and I believe we should throw in those type of tracks as well. After all, we want to have a good time partying w/o the political side of things getting in the way with all that cursing nonsense thrown in, so I say we keep it PG rated, y'know? Larry Levan would NEVER do that in his heyday so we won't too.

Also, let's play tracks from 1970 to 1989. That's decent enuff for me. Vulgar tracks were far & few even then so playing it safe will not be the hardest issue to worry about.

Just my 2 cents. These paragraphs were vague. Peace

OK, since the subject has come up for discussion, I will elaborate on it. It is said that I should lay the ground rules since I started the thread.
So with that, I propose the following guidelines to play in this club.
I also do not like Hip-Hop decadent music. I say that we stick to standard popular dance oriented club music.
The genre may come from Disco-R&B Dance-Freestyle-House-Dance Rock-Euro. This is a club that sticks to that kind of music. This club plays ONLY that format of music. Just like a food, you don't get Italian food in a Chinese restaurant. You will not hear Hip-Hop or tasteless tunes in this club. This club is just like any other club, some play certain kinds of music for the clients they want to attract.
As far as the years of music, well, that is a difficult rule to lay down. There is a lot of good music through all the years so I say, lay it down. If the tune works and you can make the floor dance then play it.
Raz, Scream, I love having you here, I do not want to have any conflict here. Your 2 cents is always welcome. I would love for us to play in this club forever.

Time for everybody to get back to the booth!!!!
OK, since we have brought the BPM's down, I guess I will stick with it here. The best way to mix this in is to start from the break over the break in Yarbrough & People. When the vocals come back, pull hte mix and grab your second copy and remix to the begining.

Hey djdan, I like the way you set up the rules, I believe anything that's danceable should be acceptable. I'm with it.

Don't forget though, after Yarborough & Peoples I threw in Baby Doll by 'Girls Can't Help It', so in a way you skipped over my next play. It's OK though, I like the S.O.S. Band too! LOL!

But I'm in this booth now!

I'm gonna have to speed the pitch up moderately for the next record I wanna throw in, this will be as 'Just Be Good To Me' is finishing off with the 'la la la laaaa laaaa laaaa la la's' come in, because I'm about to blend in 'Say I'm Your Number One' by Princess. DAMN I'm good!

I'm with you all. I love this thread. The rules are perfect. WOW I like Say i'm your #1. Great tune. I guess were in the mid 80's I will go with Hanging on a string by loose ends. It's been awhile since I put these songs on. Maybe someone can find a way to get some Five Star in as well.

Thumbs up Re: Dare to Mix - The Next DJ

Ok, "Hanging on a String" ...about 3:25 after the guitar solo, soon as they start chanting "You got to tell me, you were waiting, contemplating" adjust the pitch a bit, lower the bass and start "Genius of love" Tom Tom Club right from the beginning, ride it until the adlib on Loose Ends then start fading it out....

...next?

Nice slip in on the Tom Tom there qdearl!!!!!! I like that
OK, In the last chorus, start Men Without Hats - "Safety Dance" from the very first beat, you can only ride this for 20 seconds and pull the mix.

YouTube - The Safety Dance Extended - Men Without Hats

I am going to burn one with djscream67 and then we willbe back

Back to the booth with this track in my hand, setting it up with minimal pitch control, it's about perfect now. But I like this song so I will play it out ALMOST at the climatic ending, as I am now mixing in the beginning of 'State Farm' by Yaz(oo)!!!! Holy cow! Look at the crowd move!

Gimme back some of that Phillies blunt djdan and go spin something good like you always do.

I just wanted to say I really love this thread! I haven't DJ'ed actively in a long time except in my house for kicks, but who's gonna hear me play? At least in here all DJ's can express themselves with their talents, and it's a good feeling to imagine what the sounds were all about when we mix in our own tunes from back in the days.

AHHHHH! NOT THIS RECORD!!!!! LMAO!

Well as long as this thread continues, I'll be coming back a whole lot more. We can meet old and new DJs, we can see what they have to offer musically, and personally, I love to mix with other DJs. So kudos to djdan for bringing up this incredible idea to the forum, I'm having fun with it.

Bernie, if you're watching this, we can really use your blessing. In discomusic.com you are God! Let's spread the word and see what happens. My fingers are xxxxxed.

Incidently, I wanted to play another track right NOW! But I'll try to wait for the next DJ to enter the booth and entertain us since the rules are we 'tag team' in here. I'm getting impatient, LOL! Let's do this!

Hey djdan, is that blunt finished? If so I'll roll up another one for later. I got plenty.
