Default "Lady Day"

I've been listening to a lot of nostalgia type music on the radio. I got a little tired of the propaganda I hear during my usual talk radio listening. Anyway it ranges from Ray Charles and Sinatra to Dean Martin and Billie Holiday. So now the point of this post. After playing one Billie Holiday's standards, the DJ called her "Lady Day." I then remembered Bernie asking about the origins of "Lady Day" in Jeanette "Lady" Day several months ago. I guess Billie was also known as Lady Day and it makes sense that Jeanette may have used it because of that. I don't remember if anyone mentioned that when Bernie brought it up so I'm just tossing that out there.

Paul,
Billie Holliday was nickednamed "Lady Day" many years before anyone even thought of jeanette Lady Day. So it's more than likely that jeanette was inspired by Billie when she took the name.

These nicknames were common in the jazz community; just think about all of them - Bird, Diz, Satchmo, Lockjaw a.o.

BTW, it was the great sax player Lester Young the one who nicknamed Billie Holiday "Lady Day". They were great friends. She, in turn, nicknamed him "Prez", because she said he looked like a President. Both nicknames stayed until today in jazz fans lingo.
Paul: I reccomend for you to listen to old Billie's ballads as you pass the pages of the latest Salma Hayek photo shoot

Sounds like a good idea Nano. Salma would go well with a fine Chianti and some vintage Lady Day vinyl.
By the way, I saw my honey again tonight on HBLow. They showed Desperado.
