Default My Jams

OK, let me share what I'm groovin' to"

Rio De Janeiro - Gary Criss (I just picked up this Salsoul cd just for this song)

Rapper Dapper Snapper - Edwin Birdsong

Let's Celebrate - Skyy (I forgot how much I liked this song)

Tangerine - Salsoul Orchestra

Double Crossed - First Choice

Why Can't We Live Together - Timmy Thomas

Funky Nassau - Beginning Of The End

Finally, I love these guys and have been tempted put them in the Best From Artist. I'm talking about Tower Of Power. Their tight horns have me hooked. Anyway here are some:

You're Still A Young Man

What Is Hip

So Very Hard To Go

Only So Much Oil In The Ground (funny how this 30 year old song still applies today)

hey there paul,

I like your current CD.. i have a comment on one of your selections. Back when Skyy's LP came out. I was looking for potential cuts to play as "Call Me" was starting to get played out. I almost overlooked "Let's Celebrate". Then it appeared on the billboards soul chart. I started playing it in the early hours of the club as a tester... but it wasn't getting much action. Because it's been so long, I can't remember what place I was buying 12" remixes from by mail to get the songs on 12" (45rpm) or a different mix. I decided to take a chance on Skyy's-Let's Celebrate 12". It wasn't a domestic platter either... I betcha it was from UK.
Slightly longer (over 9:00)... with more emphesis (can't spell) on the bass. I'm wondering if you ever heard that version?

Paul,
I like Tower of Power's "You're Still A Young Man" from the red L.P. (Live And In Living Color, 1976), Hubert Tubbs and the band got the "exact temperature" of "You're Still A Young Man".

Thanks Robbie, Marcio and Efunk.
OK, first the easy question. Efunk, the "Best From Artist" can be found in the "Discuss Disco Music" forum. Once a week or so I select an artist from the era (usually) and I select what I consider their best or sometimes my favorite song(s). I then encourage others to chime in on their preferences. This week's artist will be some "blue eyed soul."
As for Skyy's "Let's Celebrate", I can't say for sure if I ever heard the 9 minute version. Most often when I heard the songs in the discos, it was mixed and remixed. This is one of those songs in particular that I rarely heard on the radio but it sure got it's run at the clubs in Boston and NYC. The version I have on that Salsoul cd is 7:13. Have you heard that one? If so, how does it compare?
Hey Marcio, getting the exact temperature is one of this band's forte 8)

Paul--

With regards to Skyy's "Let's Celebrate", I think there is a 9-minute version of that song on a Salsoul CD called "Salsoul's Gold Masters" collection. I forget the actual title, but I think this is a three-volume set that contains previously unreleased versions of some of the more popular Salsoul releases, plus some other tracks that rarely appear on Salsoul compilation CD's.
