Luv these lyrics/songs.....

Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays

I was just alone and mad
with a suitcase in my hand
part of the travelling band on the road
( And I was always away from you)

I never needed anyone
My music, It was my fun
But I woke up late at night to regret it
Oh-Oh-Oh

Someone
left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it
took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again

Eins zwei drei vier funf sechs sieben acht

Uno due treis quattro
One two
Ichi ni san chi

Over by the window, there's a pack of cigarettes.
Not my brand you understand,
Sometimes the girl forgets
She forgets to hide them
I know who left those smokes behind
She'll say, oh, he's just a friend,
And I'll say, oh, I'm not blind
to..

There but for the Grace of God, We All Need Love, MacArthur's Park, Numbers, Him

Stephen, you are confusing two "theatrical" songs...

The lyrics are from "I Caught Your Act."

The clever, risque for 1976, tongue-in-cheek, witty lyrics of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band should get mentioned:

Some of my fave lines included in "I'll Play The Fool & "Cherchez La Femme"...

"Ain't it funny what a little love can do...it's better than poison, so much stronger than glue"
"I'll play the fool for you--buy you things that I cannot afford.."
"And I'm gonna go to school for you boy--just to get my equivalency diploma"

"Tommy Mottola lives on the run...blowin' his mind on cheap grass and wine, oh ain't it crazy baby yeah"
"They'll tell you a lie with a Colgate smile--hey hey baby"
"But she goes next door--you know she just plays the whore..."
"They're all the same--all the SLUTS & the SAINTS...poor misery uh oh Cherchez la Femme"

"I believe in the boogie
Oh, but the boogie don't believe in me..."

(That's a phrase I've never said.)

"I'm gonna keep what I've got while I'm hot
I ain't givin' nothin' up to nobody..."

(Another phrase I've never said, come to think of it...)

"Please don't ever try to save me
From all the wrong you've done
You know you really needn't bother
You're always on the run
It's the same old different story
You know I won't ask you why
You know it really doesn't matter
You're with another guy..."

from: "Treat Me Right" on the "Fever" LP...sung by a FEMALE singer...one of my "island lps" which still have to be issued properly onto cd format...

Awesome! Another fan of "Him" (and, I presume, Rupert Holmes). I love that album, and I also love that particular verse of "Him".

You'll still be the one".

Did Jimmy Webb write that part of the song, too? I thought all the "middle" stuff of the Suite was new material by Moroder/Bellote/Summer. Hmmm...

marky,

thanks for quoting from "Cherchez La Femme", as the references to whores and sluts and cheap grass sure was fairly risque for a disco classic that also made the top 40 on pop radio in '76. Casey Kasem must've had a minor coronary on his show during the song's travels to a #27 peak

And Remicks, the initial song of mine that (temporarily) escaped your memory was . . . The Night The Lights Went Out by the Trammps. (I just love a tune that combines real life -- the July 13, 1977 NYC blackout -- and enhances it with a tale of taking advantage of the darkness by making luhhhhhve with your favorite partner).
