Here's a few I'd like to have, but I'd rather have them on a compilation CD (yes, I do know that Sammy Gordon is on one).

Crown Heights Affair - Dancin'/Dreaming a Dream Goes Dancin'? - De-Lite - 1977 (had this, but lost it)
Karma - Funk De Mambo - A&M Horizon - 1976
Quinny, I recently bought a CD Single Crown Heights Affair and the track listing is like this:

1. Every Beat Of My Heart 5:45
2. Dreaming A Dream (Goes Dancin') 7:02
3. Say A Prayer For Two 6:28

The sad thing about some of these collectors is that they will only want a record because of the label it is on, or the fact that it's only available on a promo. Because of this, those of us who want to own a record because we love the song have to compete with this on something like ebay and the record ends up selling for a lot more than it probably should have. It is interesting to see sometimes when a commercial copy will be available and a promo copy at the same time, and so many more bidders will go for the promo. I'll take a commercial copy any day over a promo if it's in the same condition.

Wow, this has to be one of the best threads ever!

Some recent 12's I have obtained include:-

Candi Staton "Young Hearts Run Free"
Alec Costandinos "Remeo and Juliet (DJ Promo copy)
Andrea True Connection "More More More" (Original 1975 copy).
Deodato "Peter Gunn"
Carol Douglas "Doctor Orders"

There's plenty more out there I want!!

Wow, I've wanted all these records, but it seems if your lucky to come across a copy there often in rough shape :(

Andrea True on a 12" single is truly rare! The nice thing about this record if I remember correctly, is that it has a 6:15 instrumental version which can't be found anywhere else. To obtain a 12" promo single of Romeo and Juliet also extremely rare. I have never heard Deodato's Peter Gunn...wonder if its an instrumental? Also Carol Douglas' Doctors Orders...near impossible, unless maybe a 7" 45. But I believe this song did have a long version? Maybe on the LP?

I managed to find a mint copy of Exodus together forever after a measly 20 years of searching.

But here comes the record nerd. I have never played it, i just put it up on the shelf next to my unplayed Dancing Queen, Spanish Hustle, Staying alive 12" that i have never played.
I dunno why i keep buying records that i find to precius to even play just once !!

You know, Kaliffen I don't find that unusual at all. I don't know if its healthy or not mentally, but I have several records that have never seen the light of day....still tucked inside the sealed jacket since it was manufactured back in the 1970's. As a matter of fact, even if I obtain a mint/brand new copy of a record, I'll continue my search for a duplicate copy, and out of the 2 copies I'll only play the one in the worsed shape. I have a Debbie Jacobs, Love De-Luxe, Cory Daye, Gino Soccio and Donna Summer's Bad Girls LP that have never been opened. Maybe when I'm about 70 I'll consider it...

Hi Karlos,

I've never heard this. What's it like and do you know what album, if any, it's from?

Hi DJJesse,

Both albums in this Scepter series by Tom Moulton were out on CD at one time. I think they are now out of print. Have you checked on GEMM for "Disco Gold"? They might have the vinyl.

And last but not least, WELCOME TO DISCOMUSIC.COM.

Enjoy and good luck in your search.

Peter Gunn is on Deodato's Very Together album. The track is great with a lurching, rolling bassline, hot brass and a fingersnapping tune.

Does Peter Gunn sound anything like Whistle Bump? What year is it from? Do you know if it ever came on a 12"?

Peter Gunn is nothing like Whistle Bump. It's from about 1976 and believe never got a commercial release. My copy is stamped "demonstration record not for sale" etc so is a white label promo. Best of all I only paid about £10 ($15) for it!

There were 12-inchers of Peter Gunn for sale at one point, commercial or maybe those djs only promos that got thrown into import stores quite a lot those days and weren't we excited to pick them up! The track is based on a 60's spy/secret agent film & tv series theme and has that brassy James Bond feel to it.

How about a copy of Barry Manilow's Copacabana? Probably available only on a 7 inch single.
