I looked at my copy and it's a 12 inch promo on Buddah... Hey wait, I've had it in the Disco Records Vault A-Z for a long time...

Black Sun - Disco Heat - 12 inch single

Bernie:

Thanks for the info. :D

The reason I wondered was that my copy of the 12" is on Rockland Records, Canada, and many french sounding names appear on the cover. Though, it does say that it was recorded in NJ. But sometimes small companies are being picked up by bigger (eg Buddah), so I thought that it maybe could've been originally released on Rockland, and then picked up by Buddah. Else, I don't know why there is a canadian 12" on a different label. Wasn't Buddah ever distributed in Canada? Or are there canadian pressed Buddah records? Maybe Rockland was the Buddah distributor in Canada, but then again I've never seen any other records under this label.

Buddah was distributed in Canada by Quality Records. However, you will often find that just because an album was released on a certain label in one country doesn't automatically mean that it will be released on the same label in another.

I have a Canadian Pressing of Giorgio's Battlestar Galactica  I think the the most hard to find 12" is the Alec R Costandinos "Constantly Yours" medley. I found 1 a few years ago and got it for a very nice price at only 20 dollars (while i found out its worth over 100).

In a certain sense, I would like to ask the opposite (we're talking about remixing in another thread)......
Was the famous W Gibbons remix of "It's a better than good time" by Gladys Knight ever pressed by BUddah in the US ????
I never saw a US copy of this but only canadian pressings (even if the cat. # follows the US codes - DSC 130 -)

I have both the Canadian and the Buddha Lp's, the Canadian copy with a beatiful folding cover art was released long before the Buddha with the lousy cover art.

Giovanni, I just found last week the German LP of CJ and Co 'Devils gun" the reason I bought it is because the mint cover has a picture of Jane Fonda from the movie "Barbarella" holding a ray gun, as you know the US version cover was different.

Indeed interesting! :D So the Rockland 12" was released before the Buddah one...
I also have the canadian vinyl with the nice cover art, some sort of animated alien etc.

But, is this to be called a 12" or an LP? It only contains two tunes, one on each side, and both spread all over the record. Although, the fold-out cover with musician credits gives more of an LP feel.

well, I learn something new everyday, this acetate was up on Ebay a while back, I think it sold for around $50.00, amasing that this acetates still survive today after all this years.

Default Repost - Do These Exist?

Looks like my original post of this message fell victim to the glitch on the forum board last night... :o So here goes again!

I have heard rumors over the years about the existence of several early disco 12"ers and have speculated on others based on discography info I have been compiling. Hoping that some of you on the board can confirm having seen or owning some of them....

Bionic Boogie: Dance Little Dreamer - US Polydor promo 12" (not the version included on the Risky Changes 12" promo, but another 12" pressing with an extended version)

Bimbo Jet: El Bimbo - US Scepter 12" test pressing

Claudja Barry: Love For The Sake Of Love - US Salsoul 12" promo (Tom Moulton remix)

Bazuka: Dynomite - US A&M 12" promo

Ralph Carter: When You're Young & In Love - US Mercury 12" promo

Cerrone: Love In 'C' Minor - US Atlantic yellow label promo 12" DSKO 86

Crystal World: Crystal Glass - French commercial or promo 12"

Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band: Cherchez Le Femme - French commercial or promo 12"

Aretha Franklin: Touch Me Up - US Atlantic yellow DSKO 12" promo

Gary Toms Empire: (7-6-5-4-3-2-1) Blow Your Whistle - US PIP 12" test pressing

Gloria Gaynor: Honeybee/Never Can Say Goodbye - US MGM 12" test pressing

Giorgio: Baby Blue - US Casablanca 12" promo

Major Harris: Jealousy - US Atlantic yellow DSKO 12" promo (saw this in a Discothekin' trade magazine article from 1976 announcing the latest Atlantic 12"ers, including Lady Bump, Strangers In the Night, and Wild Cherry... It probably was cancelled but maybe a few copies were pressed?)

Richard Hewson Orchestra: Love Bite - US Splash/Private Stock 10" promo

Loleatta Holloway: Dreamin' - US Gold Mind 12" promo

Phyllis Hyman: Leavin' The Good Life Behind - US Private Stock 10" or 12" promo (early Tom Moulton remix from '75)

Michele: Can't You Feel It - US West End 12" promo

Patti Jo: Make Me Believe In You - US Scepter 12" test pressing (a friend swears he has seen a copy of this!)

Ultra High Frequency: We're On The Right Track - US Scepter 12" test pressing (and this one too!)

Teddy Pendergrass: I Don't Love You Anymore - US Philly International 12" (supposedly there was an ad in Billboard announcing this along with the other first 12" commercial pressings released by Columbia/Epic/PIR... not released, but perhaps copies exist?)

Rufus: At Midnight - US ABC 12" promo

Tavares: It Only Takes A Minute - 1975 US Capitol 12" promo (a friend claims to own a copy of this - but hasn't been able to locate it to provide a catalog number... it supposedly is NOT the 7" promo disco version that has popped up on eBay 2 or 3 times over the last few years for $200 - $300!!!)

Frankie Valli: Our Day Will Come - US Private Stock 10" promo

Thanks for any help!

Kevin

I don't believe this exists. There is a re-edit of this track on a Polydor compilation, but if there really was a 12", somebody would've found it by now.

Bimbo Jet: El Bimbo - US Scepter 12" test pressing
The follow up, La Balanga, does exist in this form, but the Tom Moulton mix of El Bimbo was released on a 7"... so I doubt this one exists.

Giorgio: Baby Blue - US Casablanca 12" promo
Exists; b-side of "I Wanna Rock You"

Sometime I meet someone who claims this exists, but I never saw one copy in 25 years and so I think it does not exist. Maybe canadian on RCA ?????

Never saw one copy, but Private Stock was one of the first to release 10" & 12"

A 10" of "Swearin' to god" exists for sure, later repressed as a 12"

My message was deleted too, so here it is again:

When speaking of uncertain 12" releases, here are some that I wonder if they were pressed on original US 12" (promo 12" or normal 12"):

Roy Ayers "Chicago" from the "Lots of Love" LP on Uno Melodic
Carl Davis and the Chi Sound Orchestra "Windy City Theme" Chi-Sound. I know it exists on 7", but some are certain that there is a 12" also.
Gamble-Huff Orchestra "To Be In Love"
Charo & the Salsoul Orchestra "Love Boat" (The break is nice here)
Linda Clifford "You Are, You Are"
George Duke "Funkin' for the Thrill"
Gibson Brothers "Ooh What a Life!" Instrumental . I have the UK 12" of this, with the vocal on side A and the instrumental on side B. The US 12" that I've seen of this track has never got the instrumental version. I do only play the instrumental of this, because I don't like the vocals at all.
Rodney Franklin "Windy City"
Herbie Hancock "Just Around the Corner"
Norman Harris "In Good Faith" Philadelphia Intl. Would be really nice to have on 12", but I don't think it exists.
Jack Jones "Love Boat" MGM. I have both the 7" version and the extended LP version, but I think someone here mentioned a 12". And because of this songs cheesiness, I only play the break!
Chaka Khan "Fate"
Ronnie Laws "Always There"
Love Unlimited Orchestra "Strange Games and Things"
Metropolis "Go Get It" Salsoul
Walter Murphy "Romeo & Juliet"
Sugarhill Gang "Passion Play"
Donna Summer "Summer Fever"
Linda Tillery 12" on Olivia Records. I saw some 12" on eBay once, but can't remember the title.
