Default The most difficult disco record to find?

Well over the years the ones that seem to never show up in my area (OR ON EBAY) are:
1) HERBIE MANN- HIJACK (U.K. PROMO 12")
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/4278_0_2_0_C/
2) CAROL DOUGLAS- LP SAMPLER W/ "DOCTORS ORDERS"
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3378_0_2_0_C/
3) FAMILY TREE- FAMILY TREE (U.S. ANADA 12")
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/4843_0_2_0_C/
4) INSTANT FUNK- PHILLY JUMP (U.S. PHILLY INT. PROMO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/2366_0_2_0_C/
5) MIRACLES- LOVE MACHINE (U.S. TAMLA/MOTOWM PROMO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3353_0_2_0_C/
6) OJAYS MESSAGE IN OUR MUSIC (U.S. PHILLY INT PROMO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3421_0_2_0_C/
7) DAVID RUFFIN- WALK AWAY FROM LOVE (U.S. MOTOWN 1 SIDED PROMO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3397_0_2_0_C/
8) ASHFORD & SIMPSON- ONE MORE TRY (U.S. WARNER PRO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3399_0_2_0_C/
9) ECSTASY PASSION & PAIN- TOUCH & GO (ROULETTE WHITE LABEL PROMO 12")
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3638_0_2_0_C/
10) MANDRE- SOLAR FLIGHT (MOTOWN U.K. PROMO)
http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/5004_0_2_0_C/

MOST OF THESE ARE U.S. PROMOS....I AM SURE THERE ARE SOME UK 12"S THAT ARE JUST AS RARE, BUT I USUALLY KEEP AN EYE ON THE U.S. STUFF......THE PROMO COPIES ARE MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE TO MANY COLLECTORS......

I've been eyeing several of those singles myself. I have a repress of Mandre's Solar Flight. I don't know how to even define this single....it seems like sort of a new age discosized jazz record. It's outstanding though.

Thanks Bernie-After looking at 1-6 I'm positive I have no
medleys at all.Some of the
tracks I remember had edits
of D train,Gayle Adams,France
Joli,Ultimate Warlord and Lisa. But again these were all
individual tracks.I'll keep
searching...(I just remembered
Unlimited Touch is on one too)

Here is one I can never find: "Hot Trip" by The Ritchie Family which is a rare B-side that never made it on their initial album "Brazil" (1975).

It is probably even HARDER to find it on CD. Also, from the same album, try finding "Peanut Vendor" on CD.

Maybe another hard song to find is Silver Convention's "Save Me" with the name used "Silver Bird" (1974)! From their debut album in 1975, the songs "Please Don't Change The Chords Of This..." and "Chains Of Love" as a single.

Actually, this isn't hard to find at all, if you can find a place that has 7" singles. "Brazil" was a fairly big hit, so there are quite a few floating out there. GEMM has several copies listed. Much rarer is the remix of "Dance With Me" (retitled "I Want To Dance With You"). 2 different mixes (long/short) on a very rare promo 12" in the US, and a not-quite-so-rare 7" in Canada. Still, this is not nearly as rare as the two tracks contributed to the Barbichette soundtrack.

It's not considered rare if it doesn't exist. :)

What about Lola Falana's "There's A Man Out There Somewhere"? It came out in 1975 and reached #67 on the R&B charts. I don't know if a 12" was ever issued.

Bernie, how would you rate the quality of these Hot Plate records fidelity wise?

Unidisc had boomy bass and no midrange on many of their releases. They sound as though they were recorded in a tunnel, but otherwise acceptable.

I've pretty been able to find every disco album I've wanted. It's the funk ones that are harder to find. Unfortunately, there are many that I want that are priced way out of my league. Like those Bee Gees 12"s from Children of The World and Saturday Night Fever soundtracks. They're always going for a lot of money. Or the Jakki 12" Sun Sun Sun. That always goes for over $60US on Ebay, even though it's available in it's full length glory on one of those disco compilation LPs from '77 (I forget the name of it). AVI's 'Hot Disco Nights Vol 2' was fairly elusive for some time, but I eventually got my hands on a copy. Same with Tony Valor's Sounds album from '75.

With regards to Instant Funk's 'Philly Jump', I'm surprised that's so hard to find now. I got a copy off of Dusty Groove America years ago for, I think, $10US. Did the inclusion of the title track on that Danny Krivit CD increase the demand for the LP? It's a great album, by the way. Heck, anything with Instant Funk and Bunny Sigler is worth getting.

The very fab Dream Express arrived from a Dutch destination rather than Paris via the Trident studios of London, the studios in which the even more fab Sue &co sang for Sir Alec and Monsieur Cerrone.

I wonder if it is the same girls in the background in Gino Soccio's Dancer, or in Love De-Luxe Here Comes that Sound Again?

Dancer? Not likely, since it was a relatively low-budget Montréal production. But it's quite likely that they were on Love Deluxe, for Alan Hawkshaw worked closely with Costandinos.
