Does anyone know if this video has been shot at the time this song was a hit or has it been done some years later?

It appears to be from the period, but it's the original Space version, not Kebekelektrik's cover.

It's the original spAce vid that was send around the world when "Magic Fly" became a hit. The space age was very popular in the late 70's. Another big 1 in that style was Jean-Michelle Jarre's "Oxygene 4":

The JMJ track's base is the same as the Kebekelektrik track on the Disco Trance and Cosmic Flavs cd, whose title I can't remember now, but really the same base almost lol. I'm sure JMJ did it first?

Oxygene is from 1976 and was a thoroughly ground-breaking album in its day.

Jarre recently re-recorded the entire album, note for note, and released a 3D-DVD of it (yes... a 3D movie of four middle-aged guys playing synths... but there you have it).

I know, he's released that track several times didn't he? I have a double 12" single that came out around 1996.

However it struck me as the base used in the version of this video is so much like the Keb one, really really sounds the same.

I think you are referring to this cd:

Various - Salsoul Presents: Disco Trance & Cosmic Flavas

BTW, this is Kebekelektrik's "Magic Fly", slightly different than the 1 from spAce:

I was going to say... I hear no similarities between Jarre's "Oxygene part 4" and "Magic Fly". The only thing they have in common is that they were instrumental electronic hits that came out in the same era.

Graham, I think Westwood is referring to the tracks "Bolero" or "Wardance" on that CD. I have to listen to "Bolero" again because I don't hear the track base in "Wardance".

Westwood?

.. just like Donna Summer's "I feel love" .. "War Dance" & "Magic Fly" were european space disco tracks from '77 .. the same year the world went Star Wars crazy .. sending european disco producers into a Jarre/Kraftwerk inspired electronic frenzy .. dance music would never be the same again ..

I loved all those early promo vids for disco hits back in the late 70s. I know they look boring nowadays but when I was a kid it was a magical world out there - the eary anonymity of Space, the Bergman-like drama & staring into the distance of Abba, the odd yet thrilling androgyny of Sylvester, the well-endowed robot accompanying Dee D.Jackson () but amazingly, despite her massive success we hardly ever got a promo vid from Ms.Summer (), & despite 'I Feel Love' being #1 here for 4 weeks she never made it here to do Top Of The Pops.

As a huge fan and collector of CanCon disco music...A few details bug me about this one.

I used to own the KEBEKELEKTRIK Lp on the DIRECTION label [owned by Pat Deserio] but I no longer do.

The original DIRECTION label lists Tony Green as the producer...and Unidisc's George Cucuzella as the disco mixer. The same credits appear on the TK label from the US but when Salsoul released it and had it remixed by Tom Moulton ; Tony Green's name is no longer on the label but Pat Deserio's name appears as producer.

Then Pat Deserio's name re-appears on the 1981's new version on the RIO 12in.

What gives ???

Just wondering.

Pat Deserio: Pat Deserio () | Disco Music.com
passed away some time back so I guess we will never know the true answer, but it could very well have been contractual/legal reasons.
