Disco music of the 1970s-1980s for DJs & record collectors
Discussion on Donna Summer's Summer Tour within the Disco Music of the 70s and 80s forums, part of the General Music Discussions at DiscoMusic.com category; So is anyone else going, or has anyone gone? I'm going Aug 8 to see her, for my first time, ...

| The show is by far her most expensive and elaborate since the early 80s. 8 costume changes, dancers, 4 projection screens--not the thrown together tours she's done lately. I'm sure it'll divide fans on here a lot--it's a long set list (over two hours with intermission in most venues) and about 8 of the 20 or so songs are from Crayons, her new album. I think this is great--it seems to have gotten her excited with the music again--but like I said it will divide fans (then again the tour WAS to promote the album). She still does most of her big hits, and after several years of not doing it, I Feel Love is finally back in. I do wish, since this is my first time seeing her, Could it be Magic or ANYTHING from Once Upon a Time would be thrown in but otherwise I'm pretty excited. E |

| Hopefully it will draw crowds and be a success. Do you have a set-list then? |

| We have tickets to see her on Saturday, August 16th, at the lovely Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California. The theatre lobby looks like the Emerald City! |

| I convinced my ex to see her at that theatre in Oakland too--sounds liek a gorgeous old venue. The Van one isn't bad--for a casino, great acoustics, brand new venue and only seats 900 (I'm in the second row center anyway so can't complain). (and it's been selling very well apparantly--the Hollywood Bowl film is meant to be filmed for DVD) It's about time she finally gets a budget for her tours again--proper staging etc. The setlist is pretty standard--I wish she'd add one more of her old disco hits just cuz I haven't ever seen her before--but I do really enjoy Cryaons and I knwo she's really into the album and being able to do new music. Many hardcore fans have said she seems into the concert and on form in ways she hasn't for years--she also looks great. Still heavy but you can tell she's been looking after herself. The setlist has changed many nights (Some venues have an intermission, others don't too) but here's the main one (as always the excellent Donna Tirbute site has reviews for each concert donna-tribute.com ) Intro/Changing Of The Guard The Queen Is Back I Feel Love Dim All The Lights Con Te Partiro I’m a Fire (all 7 mins!) Sand On My Feet On The Radio Crayons Mr. Music -----Intermission----- Enough Is Enough (Duet with Mary) MacArthur Park (full 6 min version!) Be Myself Again Stamp Your Feet Slide Over Backwards (as Hattie May) Selah (Mary, Donna's sister solo while Donna changes) She Works Hard For The Money Science of Love Bad Girls Hot Stuff Encore: Last Dance Lately Science of Love has been replaced with Fame (the Game) which with its faster tempo fits that part of the show apparantly, and Brazil again from Crayons has been added some venues. |

| I don't think I'll be going after all, but enjoy the concert Eric. Do let us know what you thought of the concert though. |

| I really wish I could go see her in Chicago at the Ravinia on August 30th, but I will be busy moving into my new apartment that day. Pants! |

| Donna is playing the Hollywood Bowl around the time Diana Ross is playing the Bowl....late July -early August, I think. I tried to get my "connections" to find me some good seats...but no luck so far. If you don't get the upfront "box seats" at the Hollywood Bowl...you might as well stay home and imagine the concert. I think I saw Ella Fitzgerald at the Bowl--but I actually can't be sure---I was soooooo far away. It might have been Memorex!!!

| On my "dance collection" CD, and on my "Live and More" LP, MacArthur Park is 8:27 or 17:47 if you count the MacArthur Park Suite as one song. What "full 6 min version" are you referring to here? |

| I'm sure he means the version that's on both the Anthology as well as the 2 disc GOLD from 2005. The mix is called "Promotional Single Version" and is 6'28.

yeah I meant the longer single version that's on those best ofs--i HATE the radio version (4 mins or so) which cuts the whole "there will be another song for me" bridge--which is my fave part. In the past sometimes when she's sung the song she skips that part as well. E |
