Question Disco Movies

Hi All,

It's probably already been discussed on this board. But I picked up the OST of 'The Stud' yesterday, and couldn't help but going on a quest for other Disco movies. Nevertheless, I was quickly to find out many do not exist on European DVD coding. Is there someone who knows more? Maybe someone who can help us convert these great tales to European code?

These are the films I currently possess (in no particular order)
  • Boogie Nights
  • The Stud
  • The Bitch
  • Studio 54
  • Car Wash
  • Maestro
  • Saturday Night Fever
Please feel free to add more to the list, and I'll be more than happy to find out where to obtain them.

P.s. The theme song from 'The Stud' from Biddu Orchestra is true Disco gem!

Try The Golden Lady (1979). I've seen it on vhs. Great cheesy theme song and disco nightclub scenes.

And one Dayna mentioned, Disco Godfather (1979). I think it's been released on dvd. So over-the-top that it's actually pretty entertaining. A must-see.

The soundtrack of the movie Disco Godfather is a rarity. I've been trying for years to find.

Side One:
Disco Godfather
Shermanizing / One Way Ticket to Hell

Side Two:
I Never Wanted to Say Goodbye
Spaced Out

Album performed by Juice People Unlimited

Saw 1979's Skatetown USA listed (thanks Dayna !). Have fond memories of it, as I watched it in theaters when new 'round January 1980. Scenes are on youtube, and bootleg copies are available, but it hasn't seen general release yet.

The Skatetown soundtrack's fairly good to this film, which starred Patrick Swayze-Scott Baio-Ron Palillo (Horseshack)-Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady)-Flip Wilson-Billy Barty- Dorothy Stratten (murdered playmate), and Ruth Buzzi !!! With a 70s cast like that, and Patrick's film debut -- you gotta track it down !!!

Also, the cd sountrack to Spirit of 76 (1991) is also good for 70s disco & generally bad 70s pop radio hits. The film made fun of the 70s and starred David Cassidy-Leif Garrett-Barbara Bain-Moon Unit Zappa-Rob Reiner-Carl Reiner-DEVO, etc. It's also a fun flick in that it makes fun of it ALL !!!

Looking For Mr. Goodbar is a very sad disco movie that is almost always overlooked. Released in 1977, it stars Diane Keaton as a lost woman going from bars and discos looking for men, only to get raped and murdered in the end.

I saw it back then but I never see this movie on cable or TCM, and would like to have another look at it.

Here is the soundtrack:http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/c...?movieid=24961

Track listing

1. Theme From "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" (Don't Ask Me To Stay Until Tomorrow)
Instrumental
2. Don't Leave Me This Way
Thelma Houston
3. Lowdown
Boz Scaggs
4. Machine Gun
Commodores
5. Love Hangover
Diana Ross
6. She Wants To (Get On Down)
Bill Withers
7. Theme From "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" (Don't Ask Me To Stay Until Tomorrow) [Reprise]
Instrumental
8. Theme From "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" (Don't Ask Me To Stay Until Tomorrow) [Vocal]
Marlena Shaw
9. She's Lonely
Bill Withers
10. Try Me I Know We Can Make It
Donna Summer
11. Back Stabbers
O'Jays
12. Prelude To Love
Donna Summer
13. Could It Be Magic
Donna Summer

Here is the IMBD listing:

Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977)

It was also a book.

Wow! Some great stuff out there.
It's just too bad, these DVD's are all region1. Can they be played on a PC? Maybe I can convert them that way.
Any help?

Thanks!

Wow, I had no idea that Looking For Mr. Goodbar was such a disco movie, that tracklisting is pure disco!

I wanna add that having just watched Can't Stop The Music a couple of months ago, even though I bought the dvd when it came out, I felt that it was a special movie. Ye ok it's very silly, the plot etc, but it looks great, the music is great, and I don't know, the overall FEEL that the movie gave me, was really really heartwarming. I was left wanting for more.
Plus ok, eyecandy galore!!

I've never seen the movie mentioned here (though it may have been), but back in the day it was a very good soundtrack. I hope I have made others aware of it too.

I did find this on youtube. Nothing overly graphic here.

There are a couple of other scenes on youtube also, including the final scene, but I don't want to be a spoiler.

I haven't watched "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" in its entirety since I saw it in a theater in 1977 (The Regency 1 in SF!!) [ I also read the book by Judith Rossner]...it is a depressing story...but I liked lotsa stuff about it...it also reminded me of my life at the time....looking for love in all the wrong places....avoiding the nice, upstanding boys that wanted dates for the dangerous ones who wanted [fill in the blank]!!! That's Diane Keaton's role as schoolteacher to deaf children by day....hanging out in singles bars at night--looking for someone to screw her just rough enough that she feels something. Then there's her older swinger sister, played by the always wonderful Tuesday Weld....she and her hubby watch porn, take drugs and have orgies!!! Count me in!!!

This movie was the total antithesis of Keaton's other 1977 release, "Annie Hall" for which she won the Oscar. At the time, it was speculated that the combination of these two extremely different performances helped Keaton clinch the Oscar. Leonard Maltin gives "Goodbar" only * & 1/2 stars.....but I found it kinda exciting.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076327/#comment

Early performances from Richard Gere [very hot, dangerous and exciting to watch] and Tom Berenger [in drag!] add to the watchability....

Every time she goes to the disco...there's that soundtrack blaring while she sits at the bar --reading ...was it "The Godfather"??? Must have been an inside joke since she was in that movie!!!

Oh and one more thing about "Looking For Mr. Goodbar"...which I now am jonesing to see again.

Keaton has the worst apartment ever seen in a movie!!!!!!!!!!!!! just a NASTY hole in the basement....and she does nothing to decorate!!!!!!!!

Her apartment made me feel good about my own squalid studio apartment on Geary at Polk!!! Mine was out of a Macy's ad compared to hers!!!!!!!!!!!!
