| ***** Van McCoy was young (at most 24) and most certainly in love WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG AND IN LOVE The song was first released in 1964 (peak position #41) by Ruby And The Romantics (often called a one hit wonder via another original version of a future disco hit : OUR DAY WILL COME) Ruby And The Romantics Three years later (1967) an updated Motown interpretation by The Marvelettes was successfully released : (peak #9 R&B and #23 Pop) The Marvelettes In the 70's, Van McCoy resurrected his tune under his own guiding hands releasing this exquisite Temptations/ JUST MY IMAGINATION styled version by The Choice Four (peak #91) : The Choice Four Leading at last to a Ralph Carter/Van McCoy studio venture later that same year (1975) and an ultimate discofied version that went to the top at the clubs , fittingly when Ralph Carter was all of 14 : Ralph Carter - Lyrics: WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG AND IN LOVE (Young and in love) (Young and in love) Spring's in the air There's magic everywhere When you're young and in love Life seems to be A world of fantasy When you're young and in love Each night seems just like the Fourth of July When stars spangle the sky The moon at night Seems to shine twice as bright When you're young and in love Ooh, dreams can come true If you believe they do When you're young and in love Though many teardrops are bound to fall True love will conquer all When you're, when you're young and in love (Look and you'll find) Ooh, ooh yeah (There's no mountain you can't climb) When you're young and in love Though many teardrops are bound to fall True love can conquer all When you're, when you're young and in love (Young and in love) So in love (Young and in love) Oh, yeah FADE (Young and in love) I feel so good ******

I could swear I have a 12" on Cotilion by Stacy Lattisaw-who also would have been very young when she recorded it. Thom

A nice song. I don't think Van McCoy had a hand in the production of the Ralph Carter version. Wasn't it by the guys who produced the Moment of Truth's 1976 self-titled LP? They were Reid Whitelaw and Norman Bergen, who I think either were the owners of Philly Groove Records as well. Disco Funk

Would you say these guys out-Vanned McCoy's sound on this one?? Or maybe through hearing this interpretation of his song ..... it guided Van's future approach in the way he structured his music ..........??? ........ Quote:

I looooooove this song, so thank you for pointing out The Marvelettes were not the first ones to sing it, but they were the ones who made me love it. Then I purchased this gay-themed dvd "Broadway Damage". Thanks to this movie I discovered Voyage (Souvenirs) and Marlena Shaw (Touch Me In The Morning). When the movie was over, and I heard the first bars of the song running over the end credits I knew I was in for a treat. Then I recognized the song and i was even more in 7th heaven! I was able to find a 7" and Ralph Carter's LP. I knew him caues I have Good Times on dvd :) It's one of my favorite songs :) I like the first version but don't like the Choice Four's version at all.

Didn't Stacy Lattisaw do a disco version of that, or is it a different one?
