Default Freddie James second album

In 1981 Freddie James («Get Up and Boogie») released a second album called «Freddie James». In the 90's Unidisc re-issued the album in cd [SPLK-7259] changing its title («Sweetness») but also the tracklist: the order is different, six songs were extended and four bonus tracks were added. The problem is that Unidisc doesn't says anything of these changes. Where did they find the remixes and the bonus tracks? Anybody knows the history of this album and its re-issue?
Thank you

"Music Takes Me Higher" was the 12" release off the LP, when it was first released. It didn't do very well.

Having worked with Tony Green (and Freddie James in the early 90's), I'd imagine the extended versions were completed when the LP was first produced. Just not used.

I've often told this story ; but back in 1981 , I was standing at the corner of the SAM THE RECORD MAN store in Montreal and a large gathering was walking towards me.As the group approached I quickly recognized Geraldine Hunt,Freddie James, her daughter Rosalynd Hunt [from Cheri],babies, nieces & nephews and the grandma in tow...They glanced through the window and realized that Freddie's just released 2nd Lp was NOT in the window-display.

Freddie, himself, got inside and talked to the manager and as he was coming out,the guy was in the window trying to find a spot for FJ's album.

The family stayed in front of the window until the manager waved at them and left the Lp in plain sight.

I remember being a bit let down by the album because it lacked the energy that GET UP & BOOGIE had.I also hated that the songs were so short...good to see that some extended tracks were added to the CD version.

With the years ; I've learned to appreciate the more laid-back tracks on the album.MUSIC TAKES ME HIGHER is a great dance track so is EVERYBODY HERE DO YOUR THING.

Could the actual event have been quite as funny as what's in my mind's eye?

It was like a soul version of the Sopranos !!! The Montreal disco dynasty had to make sure that Freddie's Lp was getting its fair share of exposure !
The funniest part is that they were all dressed like you would expect a "disco artist" to dress !!!!

It may have happened 27 years ago ; but as I'm writing about it ; I can still see the group in my mind.

Are the other tracks in the same vein???

Yes, it's not a very good album. «Music Takes Me Higher» may be listenable... But the worst Freddie James album is «Come into the jungle» a faux hip hop album produced by Tony Green in 1992.

Wasn't there a single after the first Freddie James/Tony Green LP entitled "Don't Turn Your Back On Love"? It was on Prelude and produced by Tony Green? I may be confused - the song doesn't appear on any Unidisc re-issue.

«Don't Turn Your Back On Love» is actually a good song released in 1982 by Arista after the self-titled album.

I have that track on my 'High Fashion Dance Music' Dutch compilation LP from '82.
