I know about these places and I buy many things online, since it's the only way to get them now. I was referring to physical stores, where I can see the product first, browse items and find things I might not have otherwise known about, and not have to pay shipping that is often more than the cost of the item itself. As sales of physical media continue to fall, back-catalog and niche items are the first things to disappear. It doesn't make any business sense to press a CD or LP if it's only going to sell a few dozen copies. I'm not all that hopeful for legit download releases either, since -- contrary to what is sometimes implied by the news -- the increase in download and vinyl sales is not making up for the drop in CDs... not by a long shot. The fact of the matter is that people today have come to expect music for free, which doesn't give much incentive for any business to sell it. The way things are going, what we can expect now is that the music industry will be focused on live performance, which is the only thing people will still pay for. Bands will do a a few songs and give them away, and then spend years touring. It doesn't matter if they never have any more "hits" or never record again; as long as people will buy a ticket to hear them play back their hit songs, they're set. Physical media will exist as a niche market, aimed at collectors and possibly priced that way. I won't be surprised to see LPs limited to a couple of hundred copies, and sold direct from the artist for $200 or so. Why sell for $20 when people are just going to flip them for ten times that amount on eBay in a year?

Ah, okay ... i see. And thanks for the insight. Yeah, it's indeed in a somewhat depressing state of affairs. I'm glad that these collector-companies are filling the gaps to some degree. And the physical shops are becoming more an extinct species like you stated. A few major ones have been dropping like flies in the past few years. I wonder if the famous Amoebe Records in Frisco will survive ... they're still offering a lot of rare collector's vinyl in the store and i believe also on ebay. Another major one who's been selling very rare stuff online is the in Portland/Oregon-located store of Craig Moerer. With that being said, i think that if you combine your sales with on & offline-shopping, your shop might survive a little longer.

There's also & already the One Way-album "Pull Fancy Dancer" out on a Japanese pressing. Cameo's "Knights of the Soundtable" and Gwen Guthrie's album "Just for You" can be added to those hot reissues as well, and there might be more to come. It's been a long time since Japan has released this much releases at one time, and i'm actually more than thrilled of what has been reissued these last few years, whether it's from the official masters or not. Some official reissues that pop to mind : - Leroy Hutson - Paradise (1982) - Ronn Matlock - Love City (1979) - Teena Marie - Wild and Peaceful (1979) I'm not shure if Wounded Bird Records has access to the official masters, but i read & hear good reviews about the sound-quality though. Some selections from them are various albums from : - Richard "Dimples" Fields - Patrice Rushen - Sisters Sledge - Lenny White & Twennynine And Roger Troutman's second album, "The Saga Continues" from 1984 has also been reissued by Wounded Bird. You should check the links which i posted earlier. There hasn't been exactly a decline in the reissue-market lately. My still-to-purchase list is growing and growing, lol. |

i have pre-ordered the Stephanie Mills and Gwen Guthrie CD's.. first time on CD for both.. i wish they would put out a proper CD issue of Betty Wright's Travelin' In The Wright Circle.. a classic album IMO and a favourite of mine. it did come out as a two-fer but they omitted the final song and edited down several others to fit it all on the disc!

I was in awe when i saw that re-issue pop online. Excellent job by Expansion Records in the UK. They've done also a great series of 4 albums by the late Webster Lewis. Yeah, the re-issue market is on a good roll imo. Been playing the vinyl press of that fine Emotions-album many times in the past. And cool artwork which the Red-Label did in the 80's : ![]() ![]()

I'm lucky in that I get quite a few free Cd's in the form of promotional packages that artists send me..Kind of so I can get a first listen and promote it by word of mouth or take to local clubs, wanting me to get them gigs because they assume I'm still booking full time, which I still do on occasion...Some are from artists I have never even heard of and they suck but some are delicious and very accomplished and achieved artists.. this is the photo and also 2 of my latest Diana one of a kind dolls that I repaint, redress and recut and style their hair...Plus Marky's favorite Ross album cover in a frame.. click the photo's they will enlarge.. ross3433.jpg repaints.jpg
