Default African Suite-Tragedy!

So, at the thrift shoppe today and picked up what I thought was a slightly frayed used copy of *gasp* African Suite for $1.49 CAD. So, I was obviously excited to own this record which I NEVER see stocked in Toronto's many fine used LP establishments....I bring it home, eager to lay needle to "Grass" and damn if the record isn't split down the middle almost in HALF. I nearly cried. Why did I not pull the damn thing out of the sleeve in the store?

So, any thoughts on fusing the black wax back together so I don't need to shill out all my hard earned income on a mint copy?

Front!-So sorry about your cracked suite! They just
re-released this masterpiece on vinyl and can be had
for a mere fraction of todays inflated prices.Let me
know if you need more help-no one should be without
some "Grass"

Thom that is awesome of you. I appreciate that offer

I had no idea they re-released it.

It was indeed a sad moment, as I am throwing a "Crico Disco" party for Pride weekend, and was so excited at the mere thought of dazzling my audience of cute boys with the suite that when I saw the crack...wait, fissure, I nearly wept.

Oh, and on a semi-related note, did Richard Bernstein do the cover? it is hot, but cannot tell if that's his signature on the cover. If so, I'm gonna frame then sucker because I love the man's work on the three disco Grace Jones LPs.

Ok-Here goes;Calsound*::*Vinyl Records*::*African Suite - African Suite LP (re-issue)

Let's see if that works.I'm not sure if that's Bernstein-I'll
have to check.I love him too-I used to subscribe to Warhol's "Interview" so I could have copies of some of those glorious covers. The "Divine" cover is a classic.
Good luck Front and more importantly you have
good taste!

Treasured possession: The Bernstein poster from "The Neon Woman", signed by Divine.

And I'd practically kill for a print of the inside cover of Grace Jones' "Portfolio". (blue face with leopard print border)

Stephen, I am with you there! SUCH a great inner-I was going to learn to silkscreen a a tee shirt of her rose pic from the same LP

Sigh...

Ha ha, thank you Thom. "Grass" has come into my life thankfully, it just took some digging. As for the re-issue, next time I get paid, onto the old credit card it goes....thanks for the link. Nice to see love for this record in the greater musical community.

Sorry to hear about your tragedy but you might be interested to know I've seen a couple of copies available recently on eBay for fairly cheap - under $15.

As a bit of a follow up - the copy I had my eyes on eBay ended up going for $36 CAD. I never even had a chance. I suppose that's a relatively reasonable price for such a sought after record?

I bought the re-issue of African Suite recently & I have to admit to finding it rather disappointing. I much prefer Richie Rome's 'Deep' LP from the same year. I'll persevere & see if it grows on me.
