| Hey, ya'll, I'm hoping anyone out there in disco-land might be able to help me. Saw that MCA issued the following 12" single in 1977 as catalogue #1964: MCA SALUTES BILLBOARD DISCO CONVENTION #3. So . . . naturally, that leads to the following question: does anyone out there own this 12" to be able to provide a listing of the Various Artists contents of this particular release ??? And, as a 2nd question, to your knowledge, were there other label-specific compilations tied into these Billboard Disco conventions held approx. every 9 months or so between 1976 and 1980 ??? | Here it is. It's MCA L33-1964: Side 1: Gary Toms/"Turn it Out (Tear This Building Down)" (3:54) Kalyan/"Disco Reggae (Tony's Groove)" (6:27) Lifestyle/"Katrina" (4:28) Kiki Dee/"Chicago" (4:18) not disco, but a great cut nevertheless! Side 2: Laso/"Laso Square (Are You Ready)" (10:25) Anacostia/"Face the Fact" (3:48) Peaches & Herb/"I'm Counting on You" (3:20) produced by Van McCoy & Charles Kipps--the same song as was recorded by the State Department on Sixth Avenue Karen Pree/"Painmaker" (3:02) As you can see, not a real star-studded collection... I know there were others as well. Capitol released a 2-12" set in 1979 (doesn't say which Billboard Disco Forum it was in conjunction with) featuring 8 of their artists, like A Taste of Honey and Gonzalez. |

| Thanks, Tmob, for the detailed info, and if anyone knows of any other disco compilations issued by labels as tie-ins to Billboard Disco conventions, please share your knowledge on this thread -- Thanks !!! . . and re: the track listing supplied by Tmob: Lifestyle/"Katrina" (4:28), Fellow residents of New Orleans certainly do NOT prefer to hear that title played at our parties anytime soon !!! |

| Since you asked, here's what's on the Capitol sampler from 1979 (cleverly titled the "Billboard Capitol Records Disco Sampler"), SPRO-9049/50: Vol. I, Side I: A Taste of Honey/"Boogie Oogie Oogie" (5:37) Gloria Jones/"Bring on the Love (Why Can't We Be Friends Again)" (7:07) Vol. I, Side II: Natalie Cole/"Stand By" (4:19) Eddie Henderson/"Cyclops" (4:28) Vol. II, Side I: Gonzalez/"Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet" (8:02) Desmond Child & Rouge/"Our Love is Insane" (5:18) Vol. II, Side II: Freda Payne/"I'll Do Anything for You" (7:40) Sun/"Dance (Do What You Wanna Do)" (6:04) |
