Default Taka Boom/Night Dancin' Question

So, I have an mp3 of this song on my computer. In fact, I have two, and there are marked differences, obviously as one is the 12" mix which has Taka singing a bit earlier, and the LP mix. It sounds as if the 12" mix has its tempo sped up. Does anyone have both the 12" mix of the song and the LP (I only own the LP) and can tell me if it's sped up (which I learned from an earlier Cher posting was a common practice)?

I only have the 12". I used to have the LP, but let go of it in a vinyl-clearing frenzy, many years back.

Ariola did the same thing with Amii Stewart's Knock on Wood promo.
One side is called the "Slow Disco" version and the other is the "Fast Disco" version. It's only pitched-up enough to cut-off a few seconds. Not even a noticable difference.

I'll check to see...I think I might have both...

Similar situation with "Save Your Love For Me" by Space; on the LP it bpms @ approximately 142--but the 12" is around 132 bpm....probably more dancefloor friendly at the lower tempo...but I always wondered who and how they changed the beats per minute?????

You can get a CD qual of Janice on that recent Larry Levan/Paradise Garage 2CD Set-Journey Into Paradise.

Such a delightful song.....

Frontpage22,

I played the Taka Boom "Night Dancin' " 12" [7:36] & the LP version [7:20] and I tried to BPM them and I came up with the same tempos...around 125-126...the listing in the Vault says 128 bpm...but didn't hear a significant tempo difference.

Hm, weird....perhaps my ears have been disco'd out. Thanks for doing that all the same. Could be that the mp2 of the 12" mix I had was a bad rip?

Or, it could be that the mp3 you have isn't the original 12" and someone whose turntable was spinning a bit faster burned it and that's what you got.

I've always wanted to do a mix of that for Hot Tracks, but never got around to it. So much great stuff happening in the instrumental.

Now I have an excuse.

For what it's worth, Tom Lewis' "Disco Bible" lists the 12" at 126 BPM.

Marky

If you're referring to the Space "Save Your Love For Me" Casablanca 12" version, it's remixed as well from the original 12" / LP version. I prefer the original mix. It's a bit more lush sounding (and I don't mean drunk!)
when all is said and done both version sound better pitched down around -6% to 8% to my ears.
