And a big thank you to you, Bela Lugosi!

Now please watch this short film as Quinny..er....Bela performs the distortion test on his pet bats.

Just mirroring back some of that banter. Thanks for the fodder (and mudder who bred you).

P.S. Did you notice you all were wrong? Again?

The link is approximately 1 minute of music that has had the recorded level progressively taken over the 0dB level at which clipping occurs. It was then saved as that file and subsequently normalized to -0.1 dB. This methodology works, as when I deliberately took the levels to a peak of +24 dB, saved that file and then normalized back to -0.1 dB it sounded distorted to hell.

So all you have to do is listen (it WILL get progressively louder sounding) and tell me at which point clipping (distortion) begins. All answers before the actual time will be discounted, as it's obviously not possible to be clipping before 0 dB was originally reached.

DD: I really don't get the joke. Am I missing something?

This thread's hardly been a riddle or as frustrating as the 'We Are Family' thread by Remicks. Not by a loooooong chalk.

Quinny, simple fact :

People in general don't respond well to that which might actually require a bit of effort on their part ... heaven forbid introduce a thread that's a little challenging ....

I see a new thread coming on.........something along the lines of........
Are those people who responded the 'Blind Test' thread less mentally challenged (notice the very correct use of PC parlance) than those who didn't? Discuss.

To get 263 odd out of 268 (at time of closing) NOT respond in any way was kinda bewildering, especially as I only imagined 100 or less actually giving it a gander in the time involved. Having 348 people on line and only 5 members (which is what it's been like at times recently) is kinda freaky too. Who are all these lurkers who obviously have some kinda interest, but not enough to get up, get into it and get involved (thanx James Brown RIP)?

Starsky: My dear chap, you've missed the boat. This thread was effectively closed when I deleted the sample from ZShare....early yesterday.......and SFAIWC that was NO joke by Needlefingers, he was being nasty, plain and simple. Jokes I can take, but personal slurs, being the butt of malicious jokes and insults NO WAY.

For the record: I ain't here to entertain YOU or anyone else and I sure as hell ain't trying to. Just so you understand the last statement, this particular worm has turned. No More Mr. Nice Guy from me in future.

The only one you are entertaining is yourself.

As for referring to yourself as a worm, we can finally agree on something.

You get treated the way you treat people. Again, you are unwilling to admit that the problem is in you. And not us.

Reputation is based on how others see you.
Not how you see yourself.

Needlefingers,

It is now time for you to put a stop to the personal insults as there is no need for it. If you don't care for Quinny's thread then please don't participate in the test. If I hear another nasty remark from you then I'll deal with it in another fashion. Thank you.

As the owner of discomusic.com, I will respect and honor your words and hope that I can continue to play by the rules.

But I did use his words and posts.

I am positively sure that you are aware of the ongoing situation, and that banning and placing him on probation has not changed his attitude. And I ask that maybe you consider changing your mind on whether he is adding to the conversation or monopolizing it.

I may have added to the animosity that has appeared on the board of late, but I cannot apologize this time. I will just work on it for the future.

While there are many ways to look at something as genre specific as disco, it really isn’t rocket science, though at many times the discussion can get deep. In fact, it is our love of disco that has brought us all here; to celebrate, to recall and to rejoice a period of our lives we all love and miss. And to share that experience with those who have interest in the disco culture.

And there is room for debate. Geography, lifestyle, age, language and even the evolution of the disco sound would be more than enough to separate our thoughts and opinions about what we liked and disliked about the disco era.

There are plenty of experienced, respectable voices on discomusic.com who have made some of the same arguments Quinny has. Or who have agreed with some of what he says. I include myself, though I won’t give him that satisfaction.

However, these same experienced and respectable voices use their experience and reply or post in a respectable manner: one that states their position/opposition, without arrogance, sideswiping insults and just outright putdowns of our opinions and choices.

There is “childlike” and there is “childish”. Most of us on this board are “childlike”; we know what makes our minds soar and our hearts dance. And we can tap into that in an instant, breaking out in song and standing up to groove and boogie. We are exhilarated all over again, as if we were thirty years younger. The disco in our head and soul is more than enough of a playground to run and laugh and sing and dance.

Then there is “childish”. And because you asked me, I will not go there. I will just leave that open.

But if a member wants to think that it’s 1977 all over again, why can’t we all join him? Isn’t that why most of us are here?

I look forward to answering questions and participating on the forums, as I have done even today. To helping newbies and letting them know that someone did read their post.

And to continue working on and building my own reputation.

Because I know there are many people at discomusic.com who like me, appreciate my help, and maybe just outright agree with me.

Thank you.
