I totally agree with you, and I would add some have sex & some don't & never will (that's why they keep on fussing around like grumpy old men/spinsters ).

I also agree with you on Plato's Retreat wholeness as a Disco song. I like it, specially after the shh-shh part. The lyrics are very seventies as well, but I suppose now are out of fasion (after aids).

We all could put some of the lyrics into action, insted of just boasting about how big we have it:

If we need some lovin’ and gettin' hot, we could move to any beat, let’s all do the freak. Everyone’s invited, gettin’ all excited.

Marky: I'm always being de-repped (read: forum raped) by some SOB at any given time. Actually, my rep is at -10 at the moment. Perhaps I ought to audition for the next series of QI (UK readers might get the fantastic wit employed by me there and the nonchalant self-deprecation at the same time).

Johan,

You read my mind by posting Joe Thomas' "Polarizer" track as I was literally going to post about it. Superb song that I discovered long after "Plato's Retreat." Excellent choice!

Same here, but here's something very, very strange. In my mind I've always had a feeling of 'disappointment' regarding Plato's Retreat (right from the day I first bought it), because there wasn't any tangible jazz/funk element to it. Either I knew and loved something earlier that was jazzy/funky that heavily featured Joe Thomas, or James Hamilton's review in Record Mirror must have laid Joe's Jazz/Funk credentials on very thick. For the life of me, I can't remember, but the track's always had that stigma (in my own mind) attached to it.

For me, the break was probably the most fascinating part of the track and definitely a way of getting it sold to the punters.

BTW: VS, when did I write that PM to you with "a polarizing effect" contained therein. Maybe I should be the recipient of Bernie's props and he didn't know it?
