So only songs with violins can be considered as disco? I think you may be the only person who holds to that definition (and given your handle, it's not surprising! ). While there are, of course, many disco songs that have string sections, there are a significant number that don't. I may be wrong, but I sure don't hear any violins in Karen Young's "Hot Shot," for example, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to call that song anything but disco. I'm sure the rest of the folks here can come up with even better examples.

"Hot Shot" is cheese not disco. :)
If it had strings it might have been good.

DiscoViolin,

Stephen gave a GREAT example of a groundbreaking disco classic that did not feature actual strings, only synthesizers & vocals (if I'm wrong, please correct me).

That said, your opinion that actual disco = disco with strings is, in my fellow opinion, WAY too narrowly construed.

I encourage you to re-think your position IF ONLY for the reason that you may end up dismissing as "cheese" some really great tunes that will have your rump a-shaking in no time.

Personally, I think strings help make tunes damn gorgeous, but there's some great disco out there that does not focus on strings --- check some of it out

"I Feel Love" isn't cheesy.... it is depressing..electronic noise.

A complete waste of Donna Summer's great talent
at the height of her career.

Quinny, is that you?

I think it pushed her further towards the "height of her career" but that was to come in '78 and '79 with Last Dance, MacArthur Park, Bad Girls lp and No More Tears(Enough Is Enough)/On The Radio.
