MARKY youre going round again !! [only 50 weeks till year end
for me theres some great records in here
SATIN SOUL ive never made my mind up which version i like best!
JIMMY RUFFIN i suppose all but forgotten in u.k now,but i could never tire of this!
GLORIA SCOTT-just as long as were together, right up there at no 4 at downstairs and quite right too so good its big all over again in england along with a case of too much lovemaking from the same album
RONNIE WALKER-youve got to try harder, massive record for ian levine at the blackpool mecca just amazing super philly disco that sums up why this period was so great, check it on the philly ear candy c.d
THE PHILLY SOUND-dont depend on me/waitin for the rain, this surprises me this got attention there, the last gasp of breath from the phil-la-of soul label, straight instrumental versions of the same back to back vocal versions released slightly earlier, the vocals were again massive records for ian levine again awesome phiily disco
DOOLEY SILVERSPOON really didnt do too well here the BIG cut on the album here [and a u.k single] was game players a pounding stomper sounding better than ever today! and another case of records you think are still around for the bidding i heard ian levine say on the radio last year "where are you gonna find one of these albums today" and hes right i havnt seen a copy of this album for sale for 1000 years!
throw in SISTER SLEDGE and you have a great january chart :)

Jimmy Ruffin, Ben E King, Jimmy Castor........great, great records, that I played throughout '75. I never got tired of them and would still give 'em a spin today. I played all but about 4 of the records mentioned. Spain was a funky old place.

Marky: Just as I remembered, Disco still hadn't taken over by early '76. That's quite a rag bag of tunes in there, eh? It's like the old timers are still hangin' on, but you can just begin to feel the surge of the pure disco stuff beginning to happen. Donna peeps up in L.A. Oh well!!
One Oddity: Cate Brothers is one that rings a bell, but which I don't remember at all, I'm sure I played it at some point. Anyone know this track and could describe it?

I seem to remember that Gloria Scott LP being produced/ written by the man himself, Barry White. Am I right in thinking this fellas & did she do any more good stuff after that LP?

Steely,

Barry White produced Gloria Scott's "Just As Long As We're Together," an early Casablanca release. It's on the "Casablanca Records Story" box set. I never heard of this record before I bought this set. I don't know what else he did with Gloria; there was an LP according to allmusic.: "What Am I Gonna Do" (1974).

I'm only aware of Gloria's 'A Case of too Much Love Making' track that Didcodisk mentioned as I've got it on a CD compilaion on Expansion records & its very good.

Marky: What a fantastic list. There's probably only half a dozen in there that I never saw or played. So many strong disco tunes but one in particular that I've held a torch for, that no-one seems to remember.
KARMA - FUNK DE MAMBO
The very first A&M 12" (Horizon). I just love the overall sound of this disc, the funky clavinet and (what almost sounds out of tune) celeste and other little riffs. The female vocals are so twee and yet they perfectly match what is IMO a funky disco gem. Almost sounds like Lemon in a way.
I would love to find this on a compilation somewhere.

Well, I wasn't paying much attention to the music at this time, I guess. There's a lot of stuff on here I never knew back then; some--I've discovered at this site; others-- I still have never heard. EURO has taken over!!!! Those pesky Euro folks are EVERYWHERE!!!! I didn't take to that style initially (except for the Munich Sound--which I LOVED!!!)). I missed the Soul-based Disco from the previous years and believe me I wasn't gonna BUY a disco record by CHARO!!!!!! DUH!!!!!! So, I guess I was going to the leather bars in the Folsom area. (They tended to play Punk Rock, as I recall...well Blondie and that stuff). My interest in Disco would resurface in 1979 when I discovered Trocadero. :D

This just confirms my opinion that 1979 was the best year for 'disco' at its purest & most glamorous/ trashy. Wonderful! 8)

What a playlist! Memories everywhere. Even though I wouldn't push # 14 (Sorry, Felipe :) ) the list is "Close to (club) Perfection". I remember the day I picked up Machine. I couldn't wait to get to work and put it on the turntables. Like I thought they would, they screamed and screamed and screamed somemore. NO BLACKS, NO JEWS AND NO GAYS --- Who needs you Wall Street? :P

Definatly one of if not the #1 fav disco song of all time (Led ZEppelin's Stairway to Heaven which IMHO should have been issued as a 12" single remains my top overall tune)

Peaked 76 slots too LOW on the pop chart.

Note: all commerically available reversions Ive seen as of the 12 INCH VERSION!

Anyone game for a remake?
