It sounds laughable to me supporting a 1976 Disco Duck's plot theory against the genre based in a word translated from Spanish into English (where it loses its slang significance) that could only be understood by part of the Latin American USA community (in a general way much more receptive to Disco music than white Americans who were supposedly the real conspiracy's target). And it's laughable like the song itself

I can give credence to Dees for having a disco nose for business (same to you, Video And if someone can find comfort in this, we must remember Disco Duck was excluded from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, and Rick from the Grammy (Gosh I promise not to allow myself to mention the forbidden word again during this Holy Week (you know, the word starting with S and ending with F, with the N in the middle). BTW, what was the topic of this thread?

But you know what bothers me the most with this whole thread? Disco Duck is in my head for days now and me and the staff are singing "Quack Quack" all the time And now for something completely different, the tracklist of Motown Discotech # 3 A1.Commodores: Slippery When Wet A2.Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye: Don't Knock My Love A3.Eddie Kendricks: Keep On Truckin' A4.The Jackson 5:Forever Came Today B1.The Temptations: Glasshouse B2.Willie Hutch: Love Power B3.The Supremes: Where Do I Go From Here B4.Smokey Robinson: Virgin Man B5.The Miracles: Do It Baby BTW, Remicks, is that girl wearing panties or is it just my vivid imagination?

say what you want about the tacky cover — the notable thing about this LP is that it boasts an alternate version of the Jackson Five's "Forever Came Today" that wasn't available elsewhere until the 2001 2-on-1 CD reissue of Dancing Machine/Moving Violation. the second half cuts out the vocals to focus on the ecstatic instrumentation. i'm generally not big on dance remakes, but for my money "Forever Came Today" ranks among the Jackson Five/Jacksons' greatest disco tracks. i may even go out on a limb and say it trumps the Diana Ross & the Supremes original. oh marky, Miss Ross worshipper, would you refute this?

Strangely enough, I've just been reading 'Turn The Beat Around' by Peter Shapiro & he cites the bassline of this track as 'the root of nearly everything that we now think of as disco'. Praise indeed.

it's curious that here we say "got feather" (tiene pluma) to somebody who has afeminate moves, refering normally to gay people. Always wondered where that expression comes from, what's the relation between gays and feathers? never had a reference to ducks but thid could be a possible origin. about this discussion (i enjoyed soooooo much to read!!!! THANX!!!) i got to say that, FOR ME, SNF nor Disco Duck were anti-disco, made to defeat it in concious way, but they contributed for sure to "destroy" it. I like to think there was some kind of conspiracy against disco because of its premature and unfair death, but i also know that same thing happened to other music genres. There's always the genuine that some start to love, then all the mass want it and it comes mainstream with the help of the business that's just can see money in it (music is just a prostitute for them), then we see all the commercial bullshit result to fit with the new audience as fast as possible because they know it will be forgotten so fast too. That's always the same cicle. Maybe the only difference is that there wasn't such an attack against it like the "disco suck". One example? In my case i can tell you about Rumba which is such a precious genre to dance and be happy, only good vibes! with a cultural background coming from Cuba and mixing with the actocton culture: flamenco. Also opened to new influences (see achilifunk), and as other succesful musical phenomenons (still) has comercial products that just damage such a beautiful music. even if you don't like Rumba you can understand by hearing: YouTube - Peret Gitana Hechicera (Peret: the King Of Catalan Rumba singing to Barcelona!) YouTube - Melody- Gorila dance (and Melody doin reference to animal dance too ..... nuff said). |

I recently played the first Shalamar LP and was surprised to hear them cover "FCT" around 2 years after the J5 version...Shalamar used a similar J5 arrangement--but not to much effect. They musta got a package deal on Motown covers since this also featured the "Uptown Festival" medley and Smokey Robinson's "Ooh Baby Baby" as well. I have to pull out the 'Moving Violations" LP and compare that version to the "Disc-O-Tech 3" version.....

I've just played both versions & both sound very similar to me. The Disco-o-tech 3 version has a slightly more instrumental 2nd half in a Tom Moulton style but I think that's the only difference.

I just now finished catching up with last Sunday's Comics section and came across this last syndicated strip of 'OPUS' by Berkeley Breathed. Tell me what you all make of the punch line..(kind of hard to read but manageable) Arts & Living: Comics (washingtonpost.com)
