"Summer's much anticipated full-studio album is due for release on May 6, 2008. The CD is tentatively titled "Crayons" and will be released on Burgundy Records, an imprint of Sony BMG. This is Summer's first studio album in 17 years. During the weekend of Feb. 16, 2008, Club fans were ecstatic to preview a plethora of remixes of the track "I'm A Fire", which was serviced to clubs across the country. Early response to the track was very positive; the club song is already making its way to many DJ's Top Ten playlist. The first single "Stamp Your Feet" ships to radio during the month of April 2008. Summer's back!"

Hey Guys, I like you have been waiting for Donna's latest for what seems like an enternity. As for the kids liking disco and her maybe making a comeback; Let's just say DISCO is back. You can probably thank George Bush for that. Obviously, many of you don't get out much these days, but you should really check out some of the stuff being put out be DJ/Producers like Moto Blanco, Freemasons & 7th Heaven to name a few; you'd be pleasantly surpised. Much of disco music that's out today is either straight up or incorporated into electro. Most people don't call it disco, but rather "funk" music instead. I wrote a whole column on this in my year-end wrap up of 2007. You can check it out here Party Favorz: Party Favorz 2007: Mainstream Club Year-End Edition

Now, as soon as the remixes start showing up, I'll be all over that...can't wait!

Here is the press release for the new album. The list of her "firsts" certainly shows her importance in the history of recorded music.

NEW YORK, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary singer songwriter, DONNA SUMMER, is hard at work on her first studio album of all new material in 17 years! Crayons is set to release on May 20, 2008 on Sony BMG Music Entertainment's Burgundy Records.

In the thirty plus years that Donna Summer has been making music she has never confined her artistry to just one genre. Although Donna is, and will always be, "The Queen Of Disco" to many fans, her hits have spanned multiple musical genres from Rock to R&B to Inspirational and of course, Dance.

Summer helped to define the 70's pop music generation and Crayons will have all the characteristics that made Donna an icon. Containing a potent mix of the up-tempo tunes and ballads, the new album showcases incredible new material that is written by Donna (who wrote or co-wrote the majority of her hits of the 70's and 80's). Working with Donna are renowned writers and producers including: Greg Kurstin (Lilly Allen, Pink), Danielle Brisebois (Natasha Bedingfield, New Radicals), JR Rotem (Sean Kingston, Rihanna), Evan Bogart (co-writer of Rihanna's smash "SOS" and the son of legendary record executive, Casablanca Records founder and Donna's mentor, Neil Bogart), and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana).

Donna describes the background of the title Crayons and the aesthetic of the album as "a menagerie of colors and styles, with hints of different ethnic traditions and sounds. My dream is that when people hear the music it will remind them of their youth, their childhood and the joy and wonderment they felt exploring their first pack of Crayons."

Donna's long list of musical accomplishments include: 14 #1 Billboard singles, 12 Gold and Platinum singles, 5 Grammy Awards, 6 American Music Awards, 2 Double Platinum albums, 1 Platinum album, 8 Gold albums. Her song "Last Dance" won both Oscar and Golden Globe awards.

Donna's "Firsts":

-- FIRST female singer to have a #1 album and #1 single on the Billboard charts simultaneously - a feat she accomplished again just a few months later, breaking her own record.
-- FIRST artist to have three #1 double albums on the Billboard charts consecutively with Live and More , Bad Girls, and On the Radio (she still remains the only female artist and solo act with this accomplishment).
-- FIRST female solo artist with three #1 hits in a one year period, topping the charts with the singles "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls" and "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" - a duet with Barbara Streisand.
-- FIRST artist to achieve Gold status with a 12 inch for her single "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)."
-- FIRST artist ever to be given a Grammy for the category "Best Rock Female Vocal Performance" for her Platinum single "Hot Stuff."
-- FIRST artist ever to be given a Grammy for the category "Best Dance Recording" for her song "Carry On."
-- FIRST group of artists to be inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004, alongside The Bee Gees and Barry White.

Thunderpussy? Crayons? What in the world is going on here? Someone please explain...just kidding. Thunderpuss is a modern, contemporary dance/techno DJ and dance producer; it will be interesting seeing what these songs sound like with the album name of Crayons depicting a theme of an older person's childhood; pretty interesting.

I sincerely doubt if Summer is even interested in wooing anyone away from hip hop or any other musical style.....why should she be when artists like Madonna, Barry Manilow, Beyonce and others are sampling and covering her songs and they're also being used in commercials (I've lost track of how many times I've heard "Hot Stuff" in commercials). And did you manage to tolerate Debra Messing destroying "Love to Love You Baby" on "Will and Grace"? YUCK.

Ojala that this will be Donna's "Believe." Cher showed us that an old-school artist could score with the current crowd given the right material and producers.

I've heard "I'm A Fire" and "Stamp Your Feet." I have no doubt that they'll be huge in clubs. Let's just hope that radio will give the songs a chance -- and that radio audiences won't be too vapid to appreciate them.

<<Further, I know there has been a ton of Donna Summer hit packages over the years, BUT a great compliation would be the Dance Tracks she recorded in the years since her last studio album (Mistaken identity) in 1991. Songs like Someday, Melody of Love, Love On and On, I Will Go With You, Love Is The Healer, Your So Beautiful, I Will Live For Love, I've Got Your Love, would all be great to see in one package.>>

Wouldn't that be great? I'm guessing we'll see it in some form if "Crayons" sells.

As a 19 year old who loves Donna as well as what is current in today's trends, I have to say that this will be a great dance album. She already will score when the album comes out. I don't know about that title, though...

Maybe going Rihanna on us? ;) lol

I read on a Donna Summer forum that "I'm A Fire" is the only "dance" cut on the new CD. Of course, anything can be remixed.

It does look like she is trying to reach a younger audience with this album; I've seen a couple Crayons ads on Facebook, the college networking site.

Interesting.

"Stamp Your Feet" is available as a single (album cut). It is definitely "dance"-oriented.

The album is a mixture of dance songs, uptempo numbers, and ballads.

I don't see "Stamp" as a dance song. Like I said, maybe in remix form.
That's my opinion. And after what I've read, I think that anyone expecting a CD with some really great dance songs will be disappointed. I guess that we'll find out on May 20th.
