As I've been going through my record collection, I ran a 12" of a very early Miami Sound Machine song I first heard in Panama around 1978. It took me about 20 years to finally find it (thank you, ebay) but it is not the version I remember, if my memory is correct. The song is called "I Want You to Love Me". However, the version I remember hearing in Panama was sung in Spanish, except for the chorus. The only version I have found is all in English. Is my memory off, or is there such a version that anybody else can give me information about?

You're talking about the 1978 homonymous album "Miami Sound Machine", which was released in two versions with the following tracks: Spanish Version 01. Quiéreme 02. Lejos De Ti 03. Usted Abusó 04. Nuestro Romance se Acabó 05. Triste 06. Qué Pasa Mi Amor 07. Aquel Romance English Version 01. I Want You to Love Me 02. Your Eyes Look Sad Tonight 03. You've Broken My Heart 04. Live Again 05. If I Could Only Find the Words 06. A Different Kind of Love 07. What is it My Love 08. Usted Abuso 09. Para Decirte Adios 10. Esta So you're looking for Quiéreme.

Thanks for the info, Teddybear. Good to know my memory isn't faulty. I guess I'll be on the hunt for the album. BTW, do you know "Quiereme" was released as a 12"? Is the chorus sung in English like I remember?

I got rid of all my vinyls many years ago, but I know for sure this is the cover of the album I owned. It was in English. MSM.jpg I can't remember about the lyrics of the Spanish version of the song. I think you can find it in a very old compilation album of MSM, but I don't know about the language. I have boring memories of the early Spanish songs of Gloria Estefan. They were in the middle of nowhere, in spite of being considered as salsa in Spain (!!??) But I love later songs like Cómo Me Duele Perderte y Con Los Años Que Me Quedan, which have become classics here. The mixed crossover of Gloria Estefan could have been succesful in the US, but not in my country. We are a hard market and we prefer pure boleros, or pure salsa, or pure American pop. But things started to change some years ago.
