| Tom's gotta decide how he's gonna 'mix' the interview - long version or short version; breaks; additional 'overdubs' not in the original version. I'm sure it'll be a work of art when he's done! :) Disco Funk |

| .. there are 2 different 12" versions of Sylvester "I need you", both rumoured to be remixed by Tom Moulton .. there is an 8 minute extended mix on white vinyl .. and a super-long 12 minute version on Half Moon Records, which actually credits Tom Moulton with the remix .. neither version has appeared on CD & are notably missing from the two recent Moulton compilations .. |

Do you have any information on the very tiny piece of Thousand Finger Man by Candido that was on the New York Classics CD? It wasn't present in the unmixed section. I forget where it was in the mix (I don't have it in front of me), but it was about 3 minutes in length and sounded totally different from the LP mix. I don't recall seeing a 12" mix of this track ever being released They only pushed Jingo and Dancin & Prancin from that LP. Have you seen it put out on a Half Moon release or otherwise? Disco Funk |

| .. as you probably know, Tom Moulton mastered the entire Dancin' & Prancin' LP back in '79 .. it was a Tom Moulton mix .. the album version of Thousand Finger Man was 9 minutes long .. but the promo 12" was over 12 minutes in length .. the commercial 12" version (on the b-side to Jingo) however was only the shorter 9 min LP version .. my guess, from listening to the 12 minute mix, is that this was the original version .. the shorter album track probably being an edited mix .. .. Anyway, this previously unreleased 12 minute version is now available on a double CD compilation from the U.K. on Sussed Records called "Candido the anthology" .. there is also a superb new remix of Thousand Finger Man on Louie Vega's "Elements of life / Extensions" CD .. which is certainly worth getting .. But the short mix/interlude featured on "New York Classics" sounds different again .. and as you know, I would normally crawl naked to Manhattan for a new Moulton mix .. but the version you mention sounds like an unfinished demo remix .. I think even Tom Moulton would have difficulty excelling his original 12 minute mix .. it certainly doesn't leave me longing for a new 12" remix .. and to date I haven't seen one .. |

| .. thanx Terry .. there's much debate about this extended Tom Moulton remix of "Tell mewhat you want" .. the original tune was a big club hit on both sides of the Atlantic back in '74 .. and pre-dates the first 12" single by some 2 years .. Tom Moulton was already making extended edits at that time, but mostly for Scepter .. and was newly embarking on his remix career .. Could Chess have approached him for a remix? Certainly, when 12" singles became popular in 1976 many labels released older material in this new extended format hoping for a quick sale .. and by 1976 Tom Moulton was THE person to call for a disco remix .. It's very possible Chess or Polydor then approached Tom Moulton, giving him full access to the mastertapes .. presumably the project was shelved & the remix sat gathering dust in a cupboard for 30 years .. Another theory is that Tom Moulton loved the track so much, he used his own influence within the record industry to obtain the mastertapes & remixed the track for his own pleasure & self-satisfaction .. this sounds absurd on the face of it .. but reading Tom's Billboard column from the time, he does appear to have a very high regard for this tune .. the man is obviously very passionate about everything he does ( can you not think of a tune desperately in need of a good remix? ) .. And of course the final theory is that Tom remixed the tune especially for the recent "Disco Gold" compilation .. all the other tunes on the CD have been issued before & have appeared on countless other compilations .. the people at Universal obviously wanted one very special & exclusive mix that would get the disco crowd excited .. maybe they want us to believe the mix is 30 years old? .. if it was indeed sat in that cupboard for 30 years, it was a very well kept secret ..
