| Guys, I wasn't there and am relying on Keefelc's brilliant recap(s) and listening to the full set on my 8 CD box set - I have no complaints whatsoever - well only one - so many songs that I didn't know existed - so not so much a complaint but a 'well done Jerry' for bringing all these classics to my ears - absolutely faultless and if anyone is having any doubts about ordering as et - don't think about it anymore - get your order in now!!!!!!!! This is one set that just cries out for you to buy and play continuously - OK you can break to sleep, but get it back on for breakfast. My best segue? - It has to be Voggue 'Dancing the night away' into Change 'Searching' inot Sharon redd 'In the name of love' soooooooooooooper dooooooooper fantasmagorical!!!!!!!!!!!

My box set arrived the other day & as I relived the night at home (not quite the same atmosphere I feel annoyed with myself for leaving when Bob-a-Rella's 'Stop' came on as I missed some really lovely slow 'morning' tracks like Toto, Deniece Williams, Sylvester (the lovely 'Here Is My Love'), Bionic Boogie & Stephanie Mills. & the Love Unlimited Orch. (Love's Theme was one of my first disco obsessions at the age of 8!) & the classical stuff right at the end was such a great way to end it all.

| I received my package of 8 a few days ago too. I can't even comprehend the amount of time and imagination it would have taken Jerry to create each mix after fabulous mix....truly a musical craftsman of the highest calibre! What I absolutely love about the presentation is how he takes two or three songs from a certain period of time and groups them so the music travels along from time capsule to time capsule. I imagine that many of these segues would bring back many memories....a re-living of disco history. My favourite segue is The Runner followed by Have A Cigar (ahhh...early 1979)....just loving that thump thump thump.... |

| Since it's New Year's Eve, it's quiet in the office today. So, I took this opportunity to write up another part of my recap. HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody! Part 7 Although he brought the dancefloor to a fevered pitch with the last set, it really was still early in the evening at the party so Jerry sent out another musical message with Voyage’s “Let’s Get Started.” He then gave everybody a chance to catch their breath a bit by bringing down the tempo a bit with AWB’s “Let’s Go ‘Round Again.” We couldn’t wear everybody out already! However, didn’t seem like anybody was tired because the dancefloor remained packed! So why waste time? JB started revving things back up again by mixing in Patti Austin asking, “Do You Love Me?” Well, we sure did as cheers went up through the dancefloor as soon as the crowd recognized the song. Those cheers, however, paled in comparison to the roar the dancers let out when they realized Jerry was playing them Harold & the Bluenotes, “The Love I Lost.” Took them a little while to recognize since JB slooowly segued the song into Ms. Austin’s. Now Harold & the Bluenotes almost didn’t get played at this party. Initially, JB and our producers wondered if the lyrics of “The Love I Lost” were too sad to fit into the celebratory theme of the anniversary event. Fortunately, they concluded the song was too much of a classic to let it go! A wise decision especially since Jerry kept the crowd totally happy by bringing in the rhythmic and exciting percussive intro of “My Suite Summer Suite.” Just like back in the day, our lighting guru, Bob Bear, plunged the room into darkness except for the intense flashes of the strobes to match the beats of the song. Then, when the full orchestra took over, Carla, Chris and Bobby M. hit the mirror balls with rich and intense colors, perfectly coordinated. The Trocadero mirror balls in full bloom. The experience had the crowd erupting in cheers again and again throughout the song. Since we were in an orchestra mode, why not follow up with the Love Unlimited Orchestra with the Salsoul Orchestra and Double Exposure’s “Ten Percent”? Jerry then started his terrific “Danger!” set. In the time leading up to each of the RtP events, Jerry will ask us what songs we remembered hearing at Trocadero. We rarely know what songs he’ll use, when he will use them or how he will use them. Such as the case with this next set. A while back, I mentioned to JB that I used to love to hear Dee Dee Sharp Gamble’s “Breaking and Entering” and Cissy Houston’s “Warning Danger” at Troc. I was rewarded for my patience at this party. In fact, not only did he play the songs but he tied them together with a clever connection! He started by completely surprising us with First Choice’s “Armed And Extremely Dangerous”! I thought he used this song simply due to the Philly connection with Double Exposure. So, I was caught off guard when the sirens from “Breaking And Entering” faded in, but then I thought, “What a perfect followup!” People on the dance floor started to chant “Woot! Woot!” along with the sirens. When Dee Dee broke out in her “Stop thief!” chant, loud cheers broke out once again among the packed dancefloor. Dee Dee and MFSB sounding so good and so sassy! What could be better? Well as the sirens started up again, we found out as Jerry brilliantly brought in Cissy’s “Warning Danger” (This love affair may be hazardous to you!”) to complete his “Danger!” set. The crowd shouted their approval long and loud! I was so happy with the reactions to these songs. Wonderfully crafted songs sung by artists who really could sing, backed by full orchestras. Songs begging to be played loud and clear over a great sound system. Terrific lighting flashing beams of reds and yellows to enhance the emotions of the songs. How could you not smile? NEXT: ESP!! |

| I know it's been a long time and I thank you for your patience. If you're still with me, here's Part 8 of my recap! Part 8 Jerry’s “Danger!” set definitely put him in the mood to play the soulful divas of the Troc! “Warning Danger” ended and “Whatcha Gonna Do About It” started in a wonderfully smooth mix filled with percussions. “Whatcha” is a song I always have to pause to remember, “Is this song by Rozalin or Ren Woods?” At least I knew it was one or the other! This track was one of those Trocadero favorites that many didn’t have any idea who was the artist. After Rozalin, there weren’t any questions at all that “Mercy” was by Carol Jiani. “Hit And Run Lover” or “Mercy” – which did we favor more at the Troc? Back in the day, it was hard to tell. However, from the big reaction this evening, “Mercy” remained well loved by the crowd. Jerry followed with a huge Trocadero favorite, Margaret Reynold’s “Keep On Holdin’ On.” When first released, this record was an obscure promo only twelve inch single on Sunshine/TK that I only heard at Troc when Bobby Viteritti was spinning. I remember the song catching on as a favorite of the Trocadero regulars, then slooooowly building into a hit dance record for Margaret. It took a long time probably because the record wasn’t available until Moby Dick Records finally released it commercially (many of us at Aloha Records thought they ruined the song with their remix!). For Troc’s 30th anniversary, Jerry was able to get hold of a recording of Margaret Reynolds performing live at an early Trocadero party. To add a special touch to our anniversary celebration, he skillfully wove in snippets from this recording with Margaret thanking the cheering Trocadero crowd and Bobby Viteritti for helping with her success. Next, Tata Vega’s delightful “I Just Keep Thinking About You Babe” filled the room with a happy bouncy liveliness. As Tata finished up, a familiar telephone ring crept in. Jerry reached back to 1975 to play us Carol Douglas’s first huge hit “Doctor’s Orders.” At this point, I was chatting with DJ Lary Sanders and Michael, one of the owners of Medium Rare Records. When we heard this record, we all broke out into big smiles. We were thrilled to be hearing this classic in a big club environment again. Who knew we would ever have this opportunity? What better song to follow “Doctor’s Orders” than “A Little Lovin’ (Keeps The Doctor Away)”? Same theme and same jubilant feeling. However, as we approached the break of the song, we could tell something was different, something was unrecognizeable, something was fresh. Then a familiar guitar lick came in followed by a familiar set of moans and groans. Finally, when, “What a diff’rence a day makes,” filled the room, we immediately recognized the one and only Esther Phillips! But even better, we were being treated to another of the reedits that Jerry custom made for the party. This edit was one of the very few I found out about in advance. It was magical how I found out! One day, Chris, Jerry and I had been emailing each other about a particular problem that had popped up. The next day, I was very pleased to find the problem had solved itself. So, I sent them an Email with guess what as the subject line? Yup! I wrote, “What a difference a day makes!” I casually mentioned in my message, “Hmmmm… that might be a fun tune to hear at a future RtP!” I was shocked when Jerry wrote back, “How did you know I was just working on a reedit of the song for the 30th Anniversary??!” Obviously, Jerry’s excitement over his results must have been strong enough that he was sending out heavy vibes! After hearing the mix, I knew why. The quiet intensity he was able to build had people lost in their dance. Not a lot of talking just plenty of twirling and swaying as Esther and her band rhythmically serenaded us with her joyful song of love! |

| Finally!!! Part 9 We were now in the prime of the evening. Time for prime time disco! Prime time Trocadero Transfer disco that is! Time to barrage our dancers with the songs that glued the dancers of the past to Troc’s dancefloors. The time where your troubles disappeared for awhile as you merged with the beat of the music, the swirling lights and the rhythmic sway with the other dancers! Jerry and the lighting crew were determined to bring us right back to prime time Trocadero! Starting in earnest with the full Cerrone “Give Me Love/ Love Is Here/ Love Is The Answer” medley, people ran to the dancefloor cheering when they recognized “Give Me Love”! The lighting effects were purposely subdued during this first song. Then, as the instrumental bridge going into “Love Is Here” gradually built in power, the three arcs followed suit with ever growing beams of pure white light hitting the mirror ball cluster. Blinding but beautiful, arms started reaching up into the air almost as to grab the beams. As the vocals kicked in again singing, “Look out the window, a new day is dawning,” the arcs hit the cluster with beams of blazing yellows and reds. The crowd cheered at our very own indoor sunrise! Later, when “Love Is The Answer” started it’s end stretch, Jerry sloooowly and gently let Revanche’s “Music Man” flow in. What an amazing mix! As the dancers started recognizing, they started screaming and yelling their approval reminding me that this song was a huge crowd favorite. We were presented with another slow and amazing mix into the 5 Letters “Got Got Money (and i moo)”. Jerry started his mix with the heart and the best of this song allowing it to smoothly flow into Revanche. Now, I need to ask, does anybody know what the 5 Letters are singing about in this song??? The intensity continued with Karen Silver’s “Hold On I’m Coming” and Amii Stewart’s “Knock On Wood”. Played a little too often back in the day, they both sounded fresh and powerful this evening. Was it the passage of time or the combination of the songs together, or maybe both? Who cared? We loved hearing the song that night! Jerry followed with Peter Brown and the Quick. At this point, I had to run and check on things in the lobby. However, I suddenly heard the crowd roar as the fabulous break from the twelve inch version of the Three Degrees’ “The Runner” filled the club. I dropped everything and ran back to the dancefloor to enjoy this major Troc favorite with everybody else. Next, Jerry skillfully mixed in Rosebud’s “Have A Cigar,” reminding me why we immediately loved this song at Troc when it was released. The thumping bass, the light guitar licks, the catchy lyrics – all compelled everybody to keep on dancing. Then, Tantra’s “Wishbone” crept in! Dark, moody and wonderfully hypnotic. The room was minimally lit with just a thin bands of horizontal white light across a few of the mirror balls. The crowd started continual cheering as the beams of light bounced off the cluster into the fog that filled the room. Troc anthems “The Hills of Katmandu” and Disco Circus’s “Over And Over” followed and the intensity in the room could be cut with a knife. How could the evening get any better? Well how about a little “Magnifique,” “Space Invaders” and the Man in the Mirror(ball)? |

| I finally figured out how to download the video footage from my camcorder to the computer. The cable I thought all along should have connected to the computer finally fit!! I don't know what I did differently but the important thing is it finally worked (yes I admit it - I'm not computer savvy!! Anyway, I posted a clip from during the evening when Jerry played "What A Diff'rence A Day Makes". If you're interested in viewing, you can view either on YouTube or MySpace (better quality) at the links below. Robbie Leslie did the first 2 RtP events...April & October 2004 Then Jerry Bonham took over for the next 3 parties, Oct. 2005, 2006 & 2007. [correction: Jerry's done 4 parties...there was one in April, 2005 also.] Robbie's parties were good.....but Jerry Bonham's were FANTASTIC....he really put in that extra effort to painstakingly recreate the Trocadero "sound" and format/ program the evening to replicate the energy level as it was there back in the day....the musical choices are expert and the mixing is flawless--absolutely FLAWLESS....plus he did some great "reaching back" to the era prior to Troc's existence to include earlier dance classics from the 1973-1977 era ["Love Hangover/Cherchez la Femme/Ten Percent/The Love I Lost/More, More, More," etc.] that I never heard played at Troc...but sound so great in the mix of things...those are usually my fave parts. So if you are going to purchase, start with JB's ...there are links in this thread for them on ebay I believe. hmmm...can't find the link...someone will know....if I find it, I'll edit it in.....
