I beleive the Chocolats are French, although all my original copies on the "AAvalanche" and "Able" labels originate from Montreal Canada.

So maybe they were French-Canadians....

I'm afraid that after a few more years of MP3 downloads no one will know anything relating to the music they like and listen to any longer, not even the main artist's name, much less nationality and /or producers, oh well, c'est la vie.

Thanks. I couldn't quite make out the first word so I did a search for
"Love Bite" Spain LP and found out that I could search on discogs for Spanish Disco labels...Zafiro, S.A. for this record "Disco Love Bite"
and there's a list of a bunch more that I am going to look at now at:
Zafiro

I found some groups called Jumbo 76 and "Sergio Y Estibaliz"which seem to be a Spanish disco ..

Does anyone know any other Spanish disco labels I can search for?
Latin American disco labels?

Thanks

I couldn't find any recordings they made in Spain..?
What label did they record on?

I meant artists who recorded in Spain for a mainly Spanish
audience ...

everything that I have seen from Charo was
recorded in the USA and backed by the Salsoul Orchestra...
except for her first single which I think she did with Xavier Cugat..

the Barrabas Lp's I have seen were issued by RCA and recorded
in the USA...

When I first discovered Barrabas back in my HS days, I already knew they were Spanish, even before I was able to afford their first LP that plainly describes Barrabas in the cover as a " Spanish Rock" group.

And Charo, Well, they couldn't possibly make anyone more "Spanish" than her, she's considered a National treasure in Spain.

Spanish spitfire Charo is instantly recognizable with her big blonde hair

Ok, I see what you mean, although I don't know where exactly Barrabas recorded their first two LPs, ('Power' & 'Barrabas')my copies are pressed in Spain,(better sonics) with Spanish labels (cara A -Cara b etc), I guess this were released for the Spanish Market, but the songs are still the same in the English Language.

I have here a Disco record recorded in 1976 in Spain, By Manolo Gas and the Tinto Band Bang, it is instrumental, more on the Disco Lounge side with re-working of some of the classics like "Volare" "Quizas quizas" and others. this was more of a novelty record at the time, not used in clubs AFAIK, released locally on small 'Miami Record" label (MPOS-6145) under license from Polydor.

check the entries of this poster , he includes many Mexican labels entries in the vaults here

Made-in-Spain disco tracks include Pedro Marin: Que No/Puente de Colores(78), Victoria Abril (yes, THE Abril of the Almodovar films etc fame): Bang Bang Bang (78), Bibi Andersen (yes, another Almodovar Superstar and a real transexual): Call Me Lady Champagne (80).
Jumbo '76 were from Germany. Luisa Fernandez recorded there too as did the criminally underrated Lyda Zamora, originally of Columbia. But memory fails me now, where were the Miquel Bose (yet another Almodovar connection here) disco tunes like Omni Padme Um and Super Superman recorded..?

Post Re: Spanish Disco Artists (from Spain)

HEEEEEEEY now! this is my Thread!!!

First of all i must confess I have NO IDEA about Disco in Spain although i'm spanish (living here of course) and i love disco. I'm too young and didn't have the luck to live the disco era, but i think if i had the age that time i couldn't knew it neither. The dictator Franco died in 1975 and it was a dark time for the country till his death.... there was a lot of censure and many other things that keep people closed in this place, that's why there are still so many narrow mindeds here. Franco did so so bad , a lot of damage to our society. My parents were 18 in 1970 which i think is perfect!!! but everytime i sak them about that time they never told me about disco, they always say they had to work hard and had no time to disco... I don't know if this is only my case or what but it's true our country didn't wake up till a few time later....

that's why there are very few artist playin disco and why the 80s were BIG here....we had the "movida madrileña" (this is for all almodovar lovers here hahahaha ALMODOVAR had a band called Almodovar&Macnamara, check this ---> YouTube - Almodovar & McNamara - "Gran Ganga" or this YouTube - Almodovar y McNamara - Voy a ser mama) .... yes! Almodovar was famous here because of that, and he got all those hillarous characters from La Movida Madrileña, that gave us many great artists.
YouTube - golpes bajos - malos tiempos para la lirica - 1983
YouTube - Radio Futura - Escuela de calor (this was and still is a big hit)

Yes, people talk about the 80s like the greatest music time in Spain cause artists were really free to create what they'd like, musically and lyrically. But we had other try's with that music comin from US.... check this hahaha --->
YouTube - Fernando Esteso - Bellotero Pop Esteso was an humirst that time. They were so repressed in many ways during the dictature (well, that has not changed at all nowadays) so at first was so scandalous to see a breast in the cinema, that was the era of the "destape", so revolutionary here....
I wanted to show you our context just in case you didn't know how things were here that time.

Been in lookout for that Almodovar/McNamara track for ages not knowing what the record was actually called, thanks for bringing it to people's attention!
Those who visited places like Barcelona during the late 70's never experienced anything restrictive, no signs of dictatorship anywhere - apart from the fact that if you were a film fan you did notice that nude scenes were snipped out of films. The nightlife was wonderful and throbbing with energy. I went to Ibiza a decade before the Balearic craze hit, and not only was it fun day and night, it was downright decadent after dark and wonderful in every respect. The clubs were gorgeous and mainly populated by locals which was naturally a big plus - no Irish pubs or beerhalls in Ibiza town back then!

Default Re: Spanish Disco Artists (from Spain)

the 70s were just the begining of it all!!! even with Franco still alive we couldn't resist to those sounds comin from US! so EVRYTHING in that time had first that Motown influence and then the disco feeling too! So of course disco mixed with rumba for example (rumba comes from cuba but there is flamenco rumba what was a big thing here). That's how appears LAS GRECAS
Te estoy amando locamente YouTube - VIDEOS 1.000 - Las Grecas - Te estoy amando locamente
Ilusionada YouTube - Las Grecas - Ilusionada
But i asure you this is just flamenco! with electric guitars and many other details that makes it disco. I'm not big fan of flamenco but i respect it and understand the feelings in it, but i prefer other genres before than this. But i have to do an exception with those girls cause i can't resist to the arrengements!
Now let me show you PERET "the godfather of the catalan Rumba"!!!! this is a big artist here since the 70s! and i like a lot the violins and other things in here for example: Es preferible reir que llorar YouTube - Peret - Es preferible reir que llorar (360 en torno a Peret)
and performing "Borriquito como tú" in the german TV YouTube - Peret - Borriquito
And this is a rare show cause he sings "El mig Amic" in catalan on the TV in 69, when catalan was prohibited to talk and teach it in schools, they only left few books and few songs (first revised by the censor) YouTube - peret - el mig amic (galas del sábado)

For me flamenco looked as something cheesy thing because as every genre of music that gets more popularity "makes" appear that cheap music which has nothing to do with the original spirit and soul. The same that happened to disco happened to rumba. But thanx to the time that has passed we can see this with another point of view, i guess that also happened to some of you with disco (as i read in the "70% of disco was gay" thread). In the 90s there was a rumba revival, when the Barcelona Olimpic games (do you remember "Los Manolos"? doin that Beatles version of "all my loving" YouTube - Los Manolos-All my loving). There were many new artists but that movement dead too. Ok, that's all i know from the rumba scene then.

Now, this is a serious thing we're living RIGHT NOW some kind of revival with a new rumba scene where the old "rumberos" meet the new ones, and a serious project of get the old rumba back called ACHILIFUNK. this is very INTERESTING!!! there's a dj called Txarly Brown who is investigating about all this movement as rumba and disco were the most popular danceable musics back then. I'M TALKING ABOUT DISCO-RUMBA you got to check his myspace MySpace.com - Txarly Brown - ES - Electronica / Latin - www.myspace.com/achilifunk and read what is it about!:

Quote:
ACHILIFUNK CD... IS COMING !! Achilifunk is a proposal to recover the afroamerican influences that spilled spanish music rooted in rumba and flamenco. Everything started in the early 6os. the legendary rumba singer peret set the start of it all from barcelona, the birth place of the new genre. Spanish rumba comes mainly from the collision of flamenco with afrocuban rumba, funk, soul and fania sound. The package includes the album and also a booklet with more than 100 pages explaining the rumba history in spanish, english and japanese. It contains all the classics, but this journey into the vaults of barcelona and madrid's dustiest record shops will discover many hidden gems to the avid crate diggers, great breakbeats for the sample chasers but first of all is a great party music album. the tracklist features classic and rare cuts, and as bonus tracks two newly recorded covers from this era, one featuring the legendary peret himself. Achilifunk has been compiled by txarly brown, graphic designer, deejay, musician, black grooves enthusiast and crazy record collector from barcelona. during the last decade he has developed a deep exploration of all things rumba. txarly was also cofounder of seminal electronic label novophonic and the experimental one business class. he has travelled europe spinning records with the nairobi trio and playing with the sampladelic camping gaz.Welcome to the world of rumba, the real spanish party music originated in Barcelona!
If you don't know the name "AchiliFunk" comes from a song by Las Grecas called "Achilipú" which i think you should check!!!!!! and tell me what you think about it please!!!! YouTube - LAS GRECAS - ACHILIPU

oh yes! in LATE 70s all changed a lot! i can't tell you about disco scene in my city because i wasn't born till the 87 but i guess there was something good here cause it's supposed to be an "important" place.
about Balears....i can't help you neither....i've never been there....but everybody says Ibiza was a beautiful island when there wasn't a big tourist boom, when there were only old people from the place and hippies, and Bob Marley played there. I've got some friends who's been there where they had so much fun but all they could tell about it was just hard clubbing in techno discos and a lot of drugs. Drug is the law there, and a lot of rich people. I can't tell it how is it for sure cause haven't been there this is just my friends opinion.

What do I know about Fundacion Tony Manero? Well, one thing I'm certain of: they are the best party band on this earth, amen. Saw them at the Paloma Ballroom last year and the whole thing blew my mind. First of all the Paloma is of course in a class of it's own, right out of a fever dream. Then the band - moving kicking grooving on and on and on! Got to spin "Looking For la Fiesta" right after typing this.

Blowfly - are we talking about THE Blowfly?! They still exist? I must check them out 12th October that's for sure.

WOOOOOW!!!! then i have to tell you i have a little contact with some band members hehehehe
I THINK SO they're the best party band in the world!!!
i knew them by a TV advertise of a car where there was an italian family going to the beach with some kind of disco look and the song was supersexygirl which made them very famous in the whole country, i don't know how was it outside this place. I was 12 i think when that single came out, i didn't have the luck to see them in la bikini before that but i feel proud now i'm a bit older and i can go to their concerts as much as i can.

and YES i'm talking about THE BLOWFLY, the prono freak .... hahahahaha about Clarence Reid....they still exist and they're comin to visit us...check their tour dates!

Miguelito is doin some dj session tonight in the Apolo room hahaha! maybe i'll see him!
