hmmm ..... I never noticed those explosion sounds, twice emphasizing the beat at the end of the song before.... after the five minute point ..... Gee Whizz! It was those 'explosive/low down dirty bass hits' that got my fellow DJs in Southampton and I, excited. They were pure, orgasmic, 12" sex on vinyl!! The money notes, without a doubt.

Two things I don't understand: 1- Why the 6:23 version is not the lp version? It would have fit perfectly on the album instead of the 4:42 version. I prefer the long version with its vocal intro and its disco break. 2- Why the 12" version is not available on cd, even on the excellent «Dance dance dance» collection issued in 1991 (one with «Everybody dance» in its 12" form; but «Soup of one» in its 7" edit, it's true)?

But is Chic really Chic without Bernard playing the bottom? I thought Nile Rodgers had an interesting take on the guitar. Not only did he like to do the scratching strumming style in every song, I don't recall any Chic production featuring guitar with effects on it. For example, did Nile ever put a wah effect on his guitar on any Chic production (Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, etc... in addition to Chic)? Thanks for the heads up on the My Forbidden Lover 12". I have a few Chic 12"s, and they all feature the same mixes as the LP version, as far as I know. So this remix is unique. Did they do any other disco-era 12" where the mix on the single was different from the LP? Disco Funk

| It is no coincidence that ( the producers of) Change took that name! They wanted to be next to the Chic albums in the record store, in the "C" section of every music store, AND they wanted to sound a bit different (but not to much of course), hence the name Change......!! (I like the real thing best...!!!)

Bassplayer Barry "Sunjohn" Johnson performed some years ago on one of the tightest live-shows i've seen in the last few years. And besides that the late Nard's bass-style is one of a kind for Chic's trademark-sound and legendary in music history , Barry deserves many props where due for laying down a solid bottom at Chic's shows. One of Barry's first recording-gigs was in the late 70's with the group Twennynine from jazzfunk-drummer Lenny White. Around 1982 he became part of the Family Tradition Band formed by Twennynine-keyboardist Don Blackman. One or a few years after that he toured with Jeffrey Osborne's band , and occasionally did some leadsinging during the band-introduction of Jeffrey's band. Brother can sing as well and there's some of that recorded. Before Barry started performing with Chic , there was another great bassplayer part of the live-tours. His name is Jerry Barnes ( pictured right here below ) and he used to be part of the group Juicy including his sister Katreese Barnes , which caught attention in the R&B-charts around 1985 with their single "Sugar Free". ![]() I personally think that Chic might present themselves as a top-quality live-band in the first place these days , and i'm not shure if Nile has any plans to record with Chic , or if he and the band are currently doing studio-recordings for any new tracks of an optional fortcoming album. Also the tight beats of the late Tony Thompson are unique , and it's such a sad loss that him and Nard left us far too soon. I hope they're both jamming somewhere in another galaxy. Session-drummer Omar Hakim does an excellent job as well on the Chic-shows. Here beneath he is doing a soundcheck for the Montreux Jazz Festival , together with Barry Johnson and Fonzi Thornton :
