Default Motown Teaser

Here's a little tickler:

There were three groups at Motown giving each other "the BIG runaround", thanks to Norman Whitfield and others.

By "Big", I mean taking each others songs and working them, as Rolling Stone mag once described an Isaac Hayes production, to "the length of human endurance" :P .

So, put the three groups next to the songs they took to their longest version (not all of them match Rolling Stone's description :) ):

GET READY
BALL OF CONFUSION
SMILING FACES SOMETIMES
I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU
HUM ALONG AND DANCE
MA
WHAT IT IS?
BIG JOHN IS MY NAME 8)
LAW OF THE LAND
PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE

The Temptations, Rare Earth, Undisputed Truth? All were Norman Whitfield produced.

OK --- DeepBeat has given me the groups. Now who can match them to their respective songs?

You didn't think I was gonna let you skip "part 2", did ya?

OK, let me take the easy blocks out of the way. Obviously, Rare Earth did that twentysomething minutes version of "Get ready", which I recently found on CD. I know the Temptations did fairly long versions of both "Papa was a Rolling Stone" and "Ball of confusion".
This way I can pose as a true "connoiseur"... and leave the hard part for the others. :)

The undisputed truth would be the group responsible for
The law of the land (love that one in the long version, a genuine classic !) and
Smiling faces sometimes.

All right. Let's see if I can straighten out my mess. Looks like our "Northern Souler", DiscoDisk, has the right idea but I see some mishaps :( . Then again, both he and DJ-Pir mention a "long version" of Law of the Land by Undisputed Truth. Maybe there's a goody out there I haven't heard :o . So, I'll give you the groups I think have the longest versions and if you have something different I'd love to find out about it. My picks that differ from DiscoDisk are in RED.

GET READY - RARE EARTH 21:30
BALL OF CONFUSION - UNDISPUTED TRUTH 10:30
SMILING FACES - THE TEMPTATIONS 12:35
I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU - RARE EARTH 10:53
HUM ALONG AND DANCE - RARE EARTH 4:09
MA - RARE EARTH 17:19
WHAT IT IS? - THE TEMPTATIONS 5:07
BIG JOHN IS MY NAME - UNDISPUTED TRUTH 4:38
LAW OF THE LAND - THE TEMPTATIONS 5:08
PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE - THE TEMPTATIONS 11:45

I'd love to hear that one, i have this title on a Motown 12" (C 052Z-62331) which runs only 4:35 so no prize for the longest version here i'm afraid.
