| Thank you all, Melba, Dayna, and Bernie. I'm glad to read she had much love disco. Is Clifton Davis the same one that was the actor? So he was an asshole?

| I'm trying to recall the Clifton Davis story...wrote "Never Can Say Goodbye"...Tony nomination for "Two Gentlemen Of Verona"...TV series "That's My Mama" ......then I recall hearing he was GAY for a period [maybe a member of the "down low" club --black guys that do men on the side and lie about it to their women] ...before he became a minister and renounced the GAY...then did "Amen" for NBC... Is that correct? Or am I making things up???? Was it the GAY thang that ruined his marriage to Melba? Or did that come later??? I'm sure I've heard this someplace.... So many rumors/ so few brain cells left...

| Odd that Clifton Davis' IMDB entry doesn't mention a marriage to Melba Moore--but does have ?? under the entries to his other 2 marriages... Ain't that peculiar? Was nominated for Broadway's 1972 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for "Two Gentlemen of Verona." Wrote the hit "Never Can Say Goodbye", recorded and made famous by The Jackson 5. Also recorded by Gloria Gaynor, and Isaac Hayes. Wrote "Lookin' Through The Windows" for the Jackson 5, a top 20 pop hit. Currently serves as executive director of Sunoco Welcome America! Festival Where Are They Now (2006) Lives with wife Monica in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

| no remicks, that was Cleavon Little in BLAZING SADDLES, who I saw on Broadway with Miss Melba Moore in Purlie!--[the numerous connections do get confusing!!! "Six degrees of Clifton Davis," anyone wanna play???]... my first Broadway show...I was a big fan of Miss Melba's song "I Got Love"...watched her many times on Carson and all the other TV variety/chat shows.

| It's great to know Melba is proud of her disco work and appreciative of her disco fans.. She had some very interesting things to say about Broadway, disco and some of her past collaborators.. Needless to say, I've read that the lady's really been through a lot in past decade or so, so I'm glad she's still out there doin' her thing.. Thanks again for this! |

| Nice interview, Dayna. I see Remicks got his named mentioned with reference to Van McCoy! :) I probably would have asked a stupid question, like how come the 12" of This Is It on Buddah says instrumental, but it's the same vocal version on both sides?!! :) It probably wasn't this 12"s problem, because the Monday After 12" Merry-Go-Round has the same mis-identification. Did you guys watch American Idol this season? One of the ladies sang This Is It in the episode or two before they picked the top 24. I forget who sang it, maybe Melinda? Disco Funk |
