Default Cerrone Is Buddhist!

from
Disco producer Cerrone gets respect | Disco producer Cerrone discusses his career

“I lost my father in 1983”, Cerrone laments. “In '86, I became a Buddhist. In 1994, I met the Dalai Lama. I went up to him like he was my father. He gave me certitude and advice: ‘Good or bad news, control yourself.'”

Default Cerrone X Alec Costandinos: the Cerrone's version!

from
Disco producer Cerrone gets respect | Disco producer Cerrone discusses his career

Many versions of the rift between Cerrone and Costandinos have circulated; to this day, Cerrone maintains it was a matter of loyalty. “When I did ‘C Minor,' I asked him to do the lyrics”, Cerrone recalls. “When the record companies refused to sign it, I said, “I'm sure I've got something. You know why? Because nobody wants it. That proves it's brand new.' He said, ‘No, I think you fucked up.' I said, ‘Shit, what am I supposed to do, put it in the garbage?' He said, ‘Yes, it's over. Goodbye'. When ‘C Minor' was a hit, he came back to me. I said, ‘Who do you think you are?' You don't forget that”.

(Marcio, I merged the 2 posts since they were referring to the same article!)

Nice find though! We always heard the Costandinos' version about the "Love In c Minor" claim and now we finally get to read Cerrone's version.

Who's talking the truth? Guess we'll never know. Such things always happen when 2 egos work together, find success and then start claiming things. Just like Lennon and McCartney!

And the Dalai Lama issue? He already referred to this in his 80's records. If he feels good being a buddhist, then he should follow that path!

It's obvious that Cerrone got the credit (read the back of the album cover, and whose name is on the front?).

It is still hard to imagine that they, and the rest of us discoers are Fathers and Grandfathers now; my how time marches on!

And the very next paragraph down, in that very same article is:

"Cerrone soon found another lyricist and kindred spirit. “One afternoon in Piccadilly Circus, I saw a red-haired girl without shoes playing a little plastic sax,” Cerrone says. “I was carrying my keyboard. She said, ‘What do you do?' I said, ‘Musician.' She said ‘Great! Where? Can I come see you in the studio?'” That girl was Lene Lovich, and the surrealist cabaret/punk diva from Detroit and the former hairdresser/Club Med music selector became friends,"

Complete and utter fabrication from Cerrone. Here's Lene, from her 2005 interview with 'Perfect Sound Forever'
Perfect Sound Forever: Lene Lovich interview

PSF: Then you also co-wrote a disco hit on the side (with producer Cerrone).

LENE: Well, that was totally coming about by accident. We were in a soul band at the time and somebody rang up the studio and said 'Look, this French guy wants somebody to write disco lyrics. Anybody here wanna do disco lyrics?' YES! (laughs) Because I just wanting to do everything at the time. I'm still totally unprejudiced music-wise. I just thought what a wonderful opportunity to meet this French guy and do something new. So I did a lot of stuff for Cerrone. And eventually, we had a hit record ("Supernature").

This is also, how she describes it on the STIFF Records Radio Interview Disc from the early 80's. At least Lene never changed her story...

If Cerrone told me the sky was blue, I'd have a look out the window before taking his word for it.
