Default The Men In The Glass Booth,1976 Article from After Dark Magazine

I always loved After dark Magazine..This article gives an early perspective on different styles and outlooks from Dj's on the way up and ones already there..Bobby Guttadaro was always one of my fav's..Look at a VERY YOUNG Nicky Siano on the far right.
But when it comes down to it we went to the clubs to pay homage and dance to the genius of "the Men In The Glass Booth"

Thanks Dayna for this great article.

I remember buying 2 second hand AFTER DARK magazines for articles on CHER & DONNA SUMMER.

It brings back tons of great souvenirs

Thanks Dayna...what a great article to read! To see that the dj's musical creativity and mastery was appreciated and acknowledged right from the get-go is somewhat empowering for me after enduring another argument last weekend (early in the evening) with a patron who wanted me to play something other than what I was spinning.

I love this part.....David Mancuso: "I can't program myself to do what happens because it all gets so spontaneous. I don't plan it. I don't feel I have any control over it. I'm only a part of the whole, a part of the dance."

So true! The dj shows up with tools in hand (music) and begins to work on the creation starting with an empty dancefloor...building it from that point. Sometimes I end up with something that is mediocre at best...other times, it's like some brilliant masterpiece that I wish I could bottle and save for my down times.

So true...I wish we all had that magic bottle we could open.
What you might have felt was mediocre was Fan-Tab-U-Lous for someone else..so even when you felt like you werent hitting your mark i'm sure there was Atleast one person on the floor that will remember that set and how it made them feel and put it in "Their Bottle"
